Has anyone had a problem with the USB port on the camera - I am not able to download my photos and have tried everything, the canon folks have said (after trouble shooting) that it may be the USB port on the camera itself and they said I can send it for repair but I'll be cameraless for 10-15 days :( .
I've tried a new USB cord and other ports on my putter but they are working fine, anyone experience this?

Thanks

Lelani - I agree with hsteg - a card reader is the easy way to go. I had problems with my camera connection when I first used the camera. Every problem went away with the simple addition of the card reader. I keep the card reader attached to a spare USB port on the computer all the time.

I use this card reader. $9.99 at microcenter, works like a charm. I never connect camera to the computer, just swap the cards.

I understand that windows XP has had some problems with the 2.0 USB. I bought a card reader and never had a problem for months, and then all of a sudden the card reader keeps kicking out. I reinserted the CD that came with my 2.0 USB port and things are going better again. So try your camera in another computer too before sending it in. But I agree with getting a card reader.

Hail to the card reader...download a gig in 60 seconds...

How are you downloading your images? I've had problems before with mine but it wasn't XP it was that wonderful Canon software that comes with the cam. I had issues with Zoombrowser with my Pro1, and just recently threw out that stuff that came with the 20D.

If I have to use my cord I will do it through Windows Explorer or My Computer and browse to it like it is a disk drive.

Also did you upgrade to XP Service pack 2 recently?

If the trouble proves the be the camera's USB port I would suggest getting it repaired while the camera is still under warranty. Ignoring the issue could end up costing you money when you decide it's time to sell this camera and upgrade.

Not to hijack, but I think the original question was answered so...

Is it normal to take like 10 minutes to download 25 images (shot in fullsize JPG)? From my 512 Ultra II card using the USB port on the camera?

My fuji downloaded so much faster, but I just figured maybe it was because it was 4 MP as opposed to 6.3.

That's just about 1 megabit per second, which is a little slow, but not unrealistic for USB 1.1.
I haven't hooked up the USB cable to my cam since I got a USB 2.0 card reader ($20).

Looks like I'll have to put the card reader on my list of things to get then. I can't imagine waiting to download two full 512's worth of photos.

Make sure your computer has USB 2.0 capability. All that have USB ports have 1.1, not all have 2.0 and not all ports may be 2.0. A friend has a compter, 6 USB ports...2 2.0 and 4 1.1.

I agree - get a card reader. Mine shows up as a drive in Explorer. Rads some 7 types of cards. Got it for $12 or some such on ebay, 'brand' name of hotreader.

No drivers needed, but plug it in and it works. I don't keep mine plugged in all the time - my ancient scanner (usb 1.1, not XP compliant drivers) acts weird at times if the cardread is plugged in at the same time.
something like this

USB 2.0 and 1.1, $10 mail in rebate, net cost is under $13.

my fuji was USB 2.0 and it FLEW...it also showed up as drive E:\ in explorer -- the canon doesn't show up there.
