I just went looking for one of those 'sea of white lenses' photos, and I found THIS. Scroll down to the last big photo. Holy cow! Is that a lens or a shoulder fired missile? Geez- is that what it takes to get an aperture wider than f/2.8 in Nikon land?

Sorry, Damian. I didn't intend to lambaste Nikon here (even if I am a dyed in the wool Canon user), but your title invited a little jab. Just promise us that you will use your new powers only for good.

Don't blast the D70.

Horror story to tell -- we were in New Mexico skiing, etc. last week. I brought my 1D mark II. It was extremely cold, about 0-5 F. Anyway, half way through the trip i noticed that the AUTOFOCUS lights has shifted a little, so that the center light is no longer centered (moved up and to the left about a length of the light). I looked closely at the viewfinder and gasp, found two drops of moisture. I look even closely and it seems that two screws are loose and there is a crack on top of the view finder (the viewfinder is designed so that it has a separate piece that is latched in with 6 screws, the top screw is loose. I tighted one of them, the other one, refused to be tightened!

I think the extreme temperature changes, going from 0 F to 70+ in the car and repeat, etc. caused this to happen. So much for the environmentally seal claim!

My wife's D70 keeps on chugging, shot after shot, no problems what so ever. I am sending the camera to Canon -- hope they cover it, otherwise, i am seeling it and going to join Nikon. $4500 camera can't survive at that temperature doesn't deserve to be in my backpack.

Wasn't my intention- just poking a little fun. The D70 is generally regarded as superior to the Rebel, though the differences aren't anything I'd lose sheep over.

I'd still take the Canon line (300D, 10D, 20D, 1D, 1Ds, 1D Mk 2, 1Ds Mk 2) over the Nikon line, but after playing with the D70, I can at least understand why Nikon users like it. Yummy. :)
