I have an old vivitar auto thyristor 26000-d flash unit I got a long time ago for my old pentax k1000. is there any way I can put that on my d70, I was going to just try it but I don't want to mess it up seeing as this will probaly be the only dslr I will get in a long time...

from what i know the newer flashes require much less power than older ones. and you can burn out the flash power stuff in the camera by asking it to serve up enough power for the old flash.

i did try it my camera before i knew, and wondered why it wouldn't always fire. no permanent damage done, but extended use might not be good, or i was just lucky...

not positive about your specific equipment though.

For what it's worth, the old Praktica flash works fine with the D70. Obviously you don't get all the super-wizzie features, but it fires fine and gets the exposure right, which is good enough for me :)
