A friend asked about extended exposures with the D70 and I want to be certain I understand part of the hardware situation. The D70 does not have a wired remote (that I can find) but it does have a wireless (ML-L3). B&H's website states that this is useful for extended exposures. How does this work? I know you set the camera on Bulb but how do you trigger the initial firing, the extended open shutter and closing the shutter? A second press of the button?
Has anyone used the D70 for astrophotography?
Thanks for your help in this.

With the wireless remote on my rebel I put the camera on bulb, open the shutter wirth the remote and close it with a second button press on the remote....should be the same on the D70.

Correct. I haven't done it but the manual states it as such. One press to open, 1 to close. When using the shutter button itself you have to press and hold it, then release when you want to close the shutter.

I have done some astrophotography with it and it turned out great. You need to have the camera set to remote before you can select bulb exposure, and one remote click opens the shutter and the second closes it. the max exposure time is 30 minutes (ie. the shutter will close automatically after 30 minutes) |

i wonder why they limit the bulb exposure to 30 minutes.
the 300d on a full battery in warmer weather is capable of something like 4 hours of exposure.
