Have any of you noticed on some digital cameras right next to the viewfinder, there is a little dial with "+" and "-" next to it? It adjusts the focus for the viewfinder... Does anyone know how to correctly set it or does anyone even ever mess with it? Can you set it in a way where you get a sharper manual focus?

Thanks.

Thta's the Diopter setting and is used to correct for your vision. If you wear glasses and prefer to shoot with your glasses off, you can adjust the Diopter to compensate.
It comes pretty close. If you wear glasses, generally the setting should be neutral if your prescription is right.

Its the diopter correction. You need to set this up if you are using manual focus. If its set correctly, you should see the subject in focus when the camera focusses.
What you can do is, set the camera on tripod, do autofocus on any subject. Now move to Manual focus, move the lens to make sure that you still find the same setting as the best focus. Play around with the diopter setting and you would know what I am saying. If the setting if off, the autofocus would look blurry.

I believe that is the diopter adjustment. It adjust the focus of the viewfinder to your eyesight. You should adjust it until you see the text of the menus and the whole image as crisp as you can get it.

Thanks for your help. It makes sense now... I'll have to adjust it for clarity... Thanks!
