An exercise I used to give my students early in the semester was "Photograph Light"; not light sources, light itself. Wynn Bullock said "Not form rock, not object rock, but the light that IS the rock." That's what I'd be looking for.
So many average images show no sensitivity to light, IMO. They are "object-centric" instead of "light-centric", basically. One can really grow as a photographer by studying light in the world, and learning how to capture it at its most transcendent.

Like the quote in my signature says -- it's not about the light. ;-)

dang! Just noticed the heading of "Challenge Suggestions". I got excited and thought I was going to get some expert critiques. Sorry.
Removed my photos begrudgingly and now going off to pout.
BTW, It's a great topic for a challenge.

Deapee,
Yup. that quote sort of is the obverse of the Bullock quote. Though of course not all light casts shadows, and for some things the best light doesn't, or barely does:
Reminds me of Theodore Roethhke, too: "Light takes the tree, but who can tell us how"?
