Has anyone done business with infinityphoto.com? They have a great price on a Nikon D70 kit, but I don't want to get burned. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

edit
Nevermind. I looked into customer reviews. Scary comments. I won't be spending my money there.

B&H or Ritz will probably be your best bet for purchasing from a reputable dealer, unless you can work out something with a local shop.

$509. Body only.

If it's too good to be true then it ain't true. Stay away from these scam artists. When they say $509 body only it means, no software, no battery, no box, no strap, no instruction booklet. If you refuse to buy their battery for $400 they'll say they don't have the camera in stock. Common scam.

Agreed. That's why I was asking. I have to apologize, though. That $509 price is from Royal Camera, not Infinity.

It's so tempting to want to save $50, $100, $200 or more on a major purchase. Unfortunately unless what you are buying is an old model being cleared (which its not) there is no such thing as a deal like that. One or more of the following will happen to you.

1. You would be told that the model is out of stock and would you like to buy a similar item - which is not what you want but you will be assured is even "better"

2. If you buy it online, you will be contacted to "verify your purchase". At that time you will be offered an opportunity to upgrade to some "package" containing overpriced accessories etc. If you decline that - see #1

3. The shipping will be so rediculous, that it mitigates any savings.

4. Your item is a grey market item (less common with the dollar being so weak). This means that your warranty is basically through the vendor. If you have a problem - you're in big trouble.

A good way to check out the vedor is to go to pricegrabber.com. Put in your item or some similar items and see if the merchant comes up. If they do you can check out their rating (just like sellers on ebay) Any vendor with less than a 97% satisfaction rating should be avoided like the plague.
