I'm considering buying a graphics tablet and have narrowed down my choices to three options.

1. Wacom Graphire3 4x5 - $82.99 via Amazon or 99.87 for in-store pickup at Circuit City.

2. Wacom Intuos3 4x5 - $199.87 via Amazon or in-store pickup at Circuit City.

3. Wacom Graphire3 6x8 - $199.94 via Amazon.

I'm looking for recommendations from anyone who knows anything about these. Suggestions?

Thanks,
Terry

I have an older Wacom tablet, pretty close to the current Graphire3 4x5. I still only use it for working in photoshop, for normal computer work I prefer my cordless mouse.

I recently wondered if I should upgrade to a bigger tablet, but decided against it because
a)it would take up more desk space, and
b) I don't think I'd make use of it.

Even as it is now, I have set the usable space to be restricted a little bit toward the upper left hand corner. I am right handed, and prefer to rest my hand while doing touchy, "fiddly" work. If the screen space corresponded to ALL of the tablet space, I would have to pick up my hand and "hover" it, which makes my lines wobbly. I hope you can figure out what I'm saying here *s*.

Even in my older version, the pen is pressure sensitive, but I don't actually find that very important, I prefer to pick a brush size to suit the job, and stick to that (there ARE exceptions to that rule).

As to YOUR situation: normally, I'd say buy the best you can afford. However in this case, biggest is not necessarily best. Could you borrow someone's tablet to try out how YOU feel most comfortable? Perhaps, just like me, you would find you don't actually want the biggest possible size.

Whatever you end up buying, at first it will feel both familiar and strange, but you'll get used to it quickly enough. For certain jobs, using a pen is FAR better than a mouse.

Enjoy your new toy!

Current circuit city ad has the Wacom Graphire 3 at:

+$99.99
-$20.00 mail-in rebate and
-$10.00 circuit city rebate
=$69.99 :)

I have the Wacom Graphire 3 4X5 and really like it. Great for photography but can't help thinking that the Intuos is better with drawing because of the extra sensitivity. If I only have the money. Couldn't beat the $50.00 price of the Graphire 3 last year from Circuit City after rebates.

Circuit City also sells the Intuos3 -- do you know if they have the same rebate available on that model?

Never seen the Intuos 3 on sale before but Corel sent me a $50.00 e-coupon for the Intuios 3 6X8 that expired :( Sorry.

I have that coupon as well; however the Intuos3 6x8 is out of my price range.

I bought the Intuos3 this morning actually, and with my vast experience using it (it must be at least an hour now) I like it so far.

I mainly went with the Intuos over the Graphire for customizable buttons and slider control on the tablet itself and the added senstivity.

Purchased at Circuit City for $199

Edit - Intuos3 4x5 model

I've had the Intuos3 9x12 for a few months now and I love it! I'd go with the Intuos3 for the extra sensitivity and the customizable buttons which are great in my opinion.

I'd certainly pick size over the customizable buttons and sliders, etc. You can easily get by without the extra buttons. Personally I find them to be a little useless and rarely use the buttons as my keyboard is right at hand. One hand on graphics tablet, one on keyboard (for shortcuts). It's a much faster workflow.

I have an Intuos2 at home and a Graphire3 at work, both 6 x 8; I found the 4 x 5 just too small, but for me the 6 x 8 is a good working size, and a reasonable footprint on the desk. It seems unlikely that anyone would also notice the difference in sensitivity.

with your budget I would definitely go with the Graphire3 6 x 8.

If it was me, I'd shell out the extra $100 and get the 6x8 Intuos 3. More sensitivity and the extra buttons will make life easier on multiple levels. Once you have it, you won't care about the extra $100 but you WILL care about the extra convenience.

Kinda like buying a car with power windows and locks.

Thanks very much for posting that - I called Circuit City and they said they would knock 10% off the pad I bought on the 26th if I bring in the receipt. Great deal! Brings the Intuos3 4x5 down to $179.99 there.
