Hi,

I bought a Canon 10D camera and was using it today for Christmas pictures when my flash stopped working. It was working fine, and then it just stopped. The flash symbol still shows up, the flash is popped open, there NEEDS to be a flash due to low light, and the beam that determines the amount of flash (the beam of light that points at the person to determine the flash output.)works fine. I changed the round 2025 battery, that did nothing. The main battery is fully charged. I cant figure out what I have done. I am assuming that I have changed a setting on the camera somehow that caused the flash not to flash. HELP ANYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Major bummer. I can't think of anything to do except to reset all settings to default, remove both batteries, replace them after a minute or so, and then start'er up again and see if it works. If not, consult your retailer tomorrow for an exchange.

Where is the mode dial set? The very last automatic mode (fully counter-clockwise) disables flash, so make sure it's not set there.

It's not there. I tried manual mode and an automatic mode. It didn't change anything. Can it be the flash bulb? How do I replace the bulb if that is it?

You haven't modified any of your custom functions, have you? Do you use the on camera flash alot? I wouldnt think the bulb would be burnt out but I could be wrong.

If all else fails, reset to camera defaults. On the menu, choose "clear settings" then choose "clear all camera settings". This will take it back to the factory defaults.

Hi,

I appreciate all of the advice. I have set the default settings, but that didn't help. I am guessing it is the bulb, although it has rarely been used. I bought the camera from a photographer friend of mine who never used the built in flash, and I just got the camera a month or so ago. I DO use the flash periodically, but not often. But, it could be a fluke blown bulb. Can this be replaced by ME?
