i first wanted to buy the rebel [cannon] but then i saw that d70 is better & almost the same price... now i see the olympus e300... hmm. & it's 8m pixels... :-)

The E-300 sounds like a really great camera fro the price. Take a look here and see what owners are saying about it. //forums.dpreview.com/forums/forum.asp?forum=1022

He's asking about the Olympus E300, not the Canon 300D.
I honestly know nothing about the E300 so I can't offer much help there. My suggestion is to take a good hard look at the lens offerings from all the manufacturers and make sure that as you grow, the lenses you need are going to be there. When you buy your camera, your investment is also committing you to an entire lens system.

Good advice. When the E-System was first introduced there was a limited number of lenses but now there are more and also Sigma is making some lower cost alternatives. The nice thing about the E-System is that you can cover a range from 14 to 200 mm f/2.8-f/3-5 (28 - 400 35mm equiv.)with just two lenses for around $1200. Take a look here //www.olympus-esystem.com/dea/products/lens/index.html for a list of Zuiko lenses for the E-System. Note: These do not include the Sigma lenses.

The Rebel can be had for $650 new...so while it is not as much ccamera as the D70 might be, it is considerably less expensive, putting it in a class by itself.
Give the lens bit some thought -withe the Nikon you get a huge inventory of lens choices, new and used. And you can feel pretty confident that if you upgrade the body in a few years the lenses will work.
8mp..if it isn't 16, then it doens/t matter too much. You can print as big as you want with 6, and if the sensors are the same size, fewer pixels should make for a cleaner less noisy pic.
Other than those thoughts, go hold and try the cameras you are thinking about and judge from that.
see.www.dpreview.com for very indepth reviews.

I own the D70 and love it. I found this link in Colda's thread on one of the reasons he decided to buy the D70. It's very interesting and pleasing when I have already purchased it Ken Rockwell D70 Review
