How is it in 'dark' conditions? And what angle do you point the flash at when shooting close to the subject? |
I agree about the omnibounce being a good investment, but when I got it, I have to admit, my first reaction was "17 bucks for this crappy piece of tupperware?"
I just leave it pointed up at ~45deg or so, even in low light. |

The Omnibounce is a great product, but it sends light in all directions. The Lumiquest lightsource is still directional. I have an off camera flash cord and I sometimes hold the flash to the left or right of camera instead of leaving it on the Stroboframe bracket. This gives lighting more of a studio look, even though it is coming from flash.
The reason I like the Lumiquest Softbox better is that the Omnibounce seems to give flatter lighting, since the light goes in all directions. I took some shots of my kids last week with the Omnibounce. I'll pull one up and post it so you can see the difference. It was shot in the same location and light conditions as the first image in my post below.

The Softbox comes with adhesive velcro to attach to your flash. I threw it away and bought a Lumiquest Cinch Strap.

It has a rubber back surface that grips, and velcro on the outer surface that the soft box attaches to. This can be removed to allow other products to be attached, and you don't have to deal with adhesive residue or velcro that doesn't stay on.

The cinch strap looks very useful, the velcro that came with my Midibouncer is too big for the 420EX, probably just right for the 580. |

Thanks for your imput everybody! It seems that shooting in manual when using flash is the best thing! I like shooting in AV mode when I am shooting the bride getting ready or portraits. During the reception I'll start using Manuel Mode with flash to stop action! |
