everybody who voted on a picture voted it a 6?
How would the SC sort out first place?
200+ blue ribbons? |

| Not possible. Voters' tastes vary too much for such an occurrence to happen naturally, and anyone who tried to organize something like that would be kicked out for violating the TOS. |

Don't give us any ideas ;-)
You can give me all the sixes (or tens) that you feel fit though!

well, I know that it probably wouldn't happen, but what if?
Or, what if the two highest placed photos both had a score of 7.459, then what would happen? |

It is possible, just not probable. Besides, he was asking "what if?" assuming it was a natural occurence...

Nope. It's not possible. Even assuming we got 200 photos of exactly equal quality, if someone voted every picture a 6, the votes would be automatically tossed as a suspicious pattern. |

In the event of an exact tie, the ribbon goes to whichever Rebel wielding, left-handed photographer from Connecticut entered first. Or, to be fair, a random drawing from among all Rebel wielding, left-handed photographers from Connecticut.

actually, in the event of a tie (down to the decimals) the site gives each person the same colour ribbon. We had two red ribbons in a challenge once. I think one of those ribbons went to konador, but I don't recall the challenge title.

Setting the TOS aside, WHAT IF EVERYONE VOTED 6 ON EVERY IMAGE????
Refrain from answering without saying "it's not gonna happen", or everyone would get banned. Say for the sake of discussion in this thread only and not in the real world, what would happen?
I often vote 5 for everyone as a placeholder. What if I voted everyone 10? or 1?... just for a placeholder. Would I be banned? I don't think voting every image a 6 by 1 person is suspicious activity.

The smaller file size wins. =) |

What if this thread didn't really exist, nor the characters in it?
You think those are words you're typing now? |

Either multiple ribbons, as Heida noted, or more likely THIS. Yikes. |

Why? With all the things in the world to waste precious moments of a fleeting life worrying or thinking about, this is a pointless question.

If you vote all 1s, your votes would be discounted. I don't think you'd get banned or any other action if you did it once, but a pattern might show up if you did it every time. Don't know if they've ever actually done anything like that. All 10s - might trigger something, but I suppose it wouldn't hurt anyone - the only photo that would be penalized would be your own. All 5s - can't imagine it matters, for basically the same reason, though if you voted all 5s and your photo is over 5, then technically you would automatically pull everyone above you down a few thousandths of a point, and thereby potentially raise your own picture 1 or maybe 2 spots. So maybe all 5s is a valid reason for throwing out your votes.
How about this: Just don't do it. If all your votes were 5s as placeholders (and whats the point of that?), then they shouldn't count anyway. |

It is still possible that everyone could vote how they would normally vote and by some really really big coincidence, everyone got exactly the same score.
I have a feeling that is going to happen with the classy christmas challenge and I just think the SC should have a plan ready before it gets really ugly.
Of course, I don't really think that will happen, I'm just bored!!! |

OK, so even simpler: What if more than 3 pictures finish with tied scores in the ribbon range? Like Heida mentioned, ties have happened before. Back To School had a tie for first, so there was no red ribbon. And Literalisms and At Work had a tie for second place, so there was no green ribbon.
So it is definitely legitimate to wonder what would happen if there was a tie for third place, or any other scenerio (they seem less likely the farther you go - three or more second places, four or more first places) that would result in more than 3 "top" pictures. It certainly doesn't appear the formatting of the site would be able to handle it as it is right now. But with enough ties in the past, hopefully they've at least considered what to do in that event. |

Well of course they have. It'd be a sudden death playoff amongst the winners. 5 Minute Speed Challenge: The topic is Traditional Folk Songs of Uruguay (Basic Editing). Go! |

Hey I know,,,,,since some folks (no names mentioned or alluded to) are so fond of brown ribbons, how about a challenge on the the sexual habits of the dung beetle,,,,,it should provide ample, mmmmmmmmm , brown material to study and capture. |
