would it be safe to assume that if the prints i receive from DPCprints!
very closely match what i see on the monitor - that my monitor is fairly accurately calibrated?

Mine matched my monitor almost exactly and my monitor is only roughly calibrated so you should be very happy with your prints :) If you're not sure, order a 4x5 of one of your own photos at base price first, then adjust your monitor to match the print. Then you know exactly what the prints will look like :)

no, i've had good luck with the prints i have received so far ;}
but thought this ( and you're idea actually ) might be a decent and easy way to test you're monitors calibration. but i wasn't sure if it was really a good idea, or a deceptive coincidence.

EDIT: i know about the bar in the voting area, but color accuracy is also important.

If you have a shot in full non-desaturated colour of something grey, and get a print of that, that'll give you a really good idea - any slight discrepancies show up really quickly that way.

or a grey gradient?

sounds reasonable...
