Any opinions on what might be the best camera less than $400. I'm mostly thinking of a used one. It has to have a shoe mount. The G3 or Olympus E-10 are my main considerations at this point. I like the features on the G3 especially the PC Remote Capability (not crazy about it's styling though). Mostly used for street photography, macros, and portraits. |

You may be able to find a Sony 717 for a little over $400.

Had an E-10 and it is a great camera. I would also check out the Nikon Coolpix 5000. It can be had for $399 refurbished at the Nikon Mall with a warranty. |

Are you looking to control the camera via software? If that's what you want to do not many cameras do this. The S5100 can be used as a web cam though. |

Right. The G3's have this with supplied software and a lot of Olympus cameras do too with some third party software such as Pine Tree. Though I found out the e-10 does not have this capability so I'm starting to not consider it.
I don't think I can find a 300d for 400. i've never seen it and I would assume that would be just body. Adding lenses would push it outside the budget. I also don't think it's the best time to buy SLR's, in terms of value. There are too many developments and the their eroding value is steep. |
