I'm wondering about titles in this challenge. If, for example, you "paid homage" to Brad P's "Cat Scan" would you title it 1. "Cat Scan" 2. "Humor II - Blue" or 3. something else entirely? I suppose it should be obvious what you're imitating, but unless it's a recent winner....

It will be interesting to see how many submissions get DQ'd based upon the requirement for "original art" that has popped up so many time before?
Personally, I see this challenge as a bit lame. Are the "powers that be" running out of new and original ideas with which to challenge us? The parody aspect could be fun. But, I find the imitation part a bit silly. Perhaps I am alone in this view as so many of you are excited by this challenge topic?

I don't believe there will be an unusually high number of DQs for the "artwork rule." Under this rule, the only way to get DQd is essentially to photograph an existing artwork without any significant interpretation.
One of the best ways to improve our skills is to imitate shots that we find inspiring. That, I believe, is part of the appeal of this challenge topic. There's also the removal of the discomfort we normally feel with "copying" someone else's style. Here we have "open season". It will be fun to see some fresh interpretations of DPC classics, and hopefully some great parodies.

Use the same title, and put in the image # as in a Thumb insert in a forum message.
Elsewise, you may get a lot of 'does not meet challenge because i cannot find what you are copying/referring to, etc'
There is no phot search on this site (yet) by title...so it will be up the entrant to make sure the voter has a frame of reference to verify it meets the challenge.
There are lots of new folks here, and not everyone can/will remember every ribbon winning pic from 200+ challenges! |

I'm just having too much fun recreating shots. I did one, submitted it, then found another I liked, so shot that one. Now I can't decide which I like best. By the time Sunday rolls around I may have 10 different possible shots! Argh! It's a good kinda argh though ;)

I have been successful in making manu ribbon winning photos look ordinary and worth appearing on last page of the results. I should give up now !! |

Submit the one that scored the highest score overall or got no 1's.

Humor II - Cat Scan... Why not scan an actual cat and post the scan as an entry?! |

1. the Overpainted is sooooo much better.
2. my ST-E2 has a flat battery, so I can't setup a good light scene. :-\
3. I'm leaving for Belgium in 1 hour, and I won't be back until sunday night. No deja vu for me.. :\

Very flattering to have one of one's images discussed here - though I'd like to correct one common misapprehension: it isn't a nuclear power plant, it's a coal-fired plant - none, I believe, of our nuclear plants have cooling towers.
And I would have hoped the SC would allow some lee-way in the recreation of that (or either of the others in that challenge) shot for this particular challenge. Evidently not.
I hope all the ribbbon winners have the grace to try a different shot than their own - to recreate your won work would be outside the intent of tthe challenge I believe. As someone has pointed out, of course we will not know - which is why it requires grace, I think.
Finally, I would urge folks to considerr exactly which shot they'll try to re-do. Consider this: many shots win challenges because they fit tha challenge perfectly (as well as certain technical elements, naturally). It doesn't mean they'll appeal universally outside of that challenge. And of course, the easier it is to recreate, the more of it your likely to see.
Fun challenge though, looking forward to the results.

Okay... after about 200 shots, I'm still not getting the photo right - but I'm learning alot and getting closer all the time! Good thing I started on this one pretty early in the week. I do have something that is passable to enter, but am continuing to work toward perfecting it a lot more.
Thanks for this challenge. I also wonder how many others are choosing the same photo to copy/parody. Knowing that there will undoubtedly be several of the same/similar shots, and simply knowing that there will be the comparison to the original, brings out the competitor in me. |

Question: I am assuming that it is OK to recreate or parody one's own previous ribbon winner? What is the general opinion of DPCer's concerning this. Would it be considered more creative to try to duplicate or parody someone else's picture or One's own. I know there is no way of really knowing until the challenge is over but I was just interested in everyone's opinion. |

I think this challenge has produced a few differing opinions on how it should be approached.
In my view there is nothing wrong with anyone doing a parody of their own work but I agree there`s not much to recommend producing a repeat of their original.
The only idea I have at the moment involves a parody (of sorts)of someone else`s ribbon winner, however,it would not look like the original.
Anyone familiar with the ribbon winning image should get the idea behind the parody but it would only link to the original in theme.
I would be grateful for people`s opinions on whether this could be considered as being outwith the challenge remit?

Seems like if you are going to repeat one of your own images it should be a parody and not a duplication as there isn't much point to retaking the same picture. |

Would anyone agree with me that the challenge of the ribbon should be included in the title so that we all aren't searching, etc.? |

I`ve seen two which I would like to re-create but I don`t understand one of them and I can`t workout the other one. :(

Awww man!! There ya go again!! Another GREAT oppostunity to take that museum shot and you just go and tell the whole world!!! THANKS!!!! ;-)
Seriously though, someone who pays homage to their own work is a little bit...... narcissic. :-) But no one will be able to know during voting though. |
Screwed me up too! j/k. I'm not planning on entering a Haystack rock shot for a while

Or a parody/imitation of the Title.
