How to use it?
ETTL is an amazing thing. You put it in top of the camera, and take photos.. :-).
But seriously, what type of info are you specifically looking for?
For the flash comp. you either use the dial on the flash (push the center button, and dial the comp.) or use the setting on the camera. If you use the flash setting you can get +- 3 stops rather than the 2 the camera will give you.
You need to be aware of how EOS flashes work though, as the camera/flash interact in quite a complex manner. I found the 580ex manual answered most of my questions, and then just a matter of playing a little.
If you're asking 'when do I use' flash comp., that would be a whole other book, and a lot of personal opinion rather than technical info. (and flash comp. on EOS/ex flashes is mixed up a little by the EOS auto-fill calcs that are hidden from the user)
I got mine on Sunday, very happy so far. This is the first ex flash on EOS experience I've had and I'm impressed with the auto-fill flash functionality, colour temp seems bang on, exposures so far seem pretty much bang on...
Cheers, Chris H.
