I don't this idea has come up so far:
What about a invitational challenge only open to ppl who are addicted to DPC and have entered every single of the last (say) 10 challenges, or 15 out of the last 20.
So, what do you say?

I think we should have one for people who have entered over 200 challenges : )

The problem with this challenge would be
"15 out of last 20 total?"
"15 out of last 20 members only?"
"15 out of last 20 open only?"

How would you determine who's an addict?

What about "12 challenges entered in the last 3 months."
That seems fair, as there were approximately (someone will correct me) 28 challenges in that time period. If you entered 12, you're doing pretty well. Maybe 15.

I think it's a good idea (either benchmark - total # of challenges entered, or last several consecutive challenges entered). I'm definitely not in either camp. I have been hard pressed to enter photos in the last several, but there are those who consistently do so.

How about this:

1) Minimum of 25 challenge entries
2) Minimum of 95% of last 25 challenges entered (only 1 missed)

I'm hoping no more than two besides myself ... it's a joke, not a serious suggestion.

The problem with "only 1 missed" is if you go back 25 challenges, we've had two Masters' challenges and the No Ribbon invitational - so there were 3 times people probably couldn't participate - or at least 2 for some people. I wonder if there's more than 10 people that meet your criteria. :)

What about a "2004 addict" invitational where you can only play if you entered over 52 challenges so far in 2004?

:)

I'm not so sure about this - wouldn't something like this be "enabling" or "co-dependent"? Shouldn't we instead organize a 12-step program for DPC Addicts?

This is my personal opinion on the idea.

The problem with rewarding "submitting to almost every challenge" (in some given timeframe) is that it encourages more of the "submit just to have an entry" mentality. Part of the "learning" experience here (for me, at least) was learning that I shouldn't (and don't have to) submit to every challenge. Instead, I now mostly submit only when I think I have a decent idea, that it is going to "meet the challenge head-on" (no chance of somebody commenting "doesn't meet the challenge") and is technically sound.

That's easy to say, but would you like to write a 'living without the update link' tutorial in order that the addicted amongst can try to find a way to cope. :)

Oh, go build a foamhenge, would ya!

;0)

Just kidding, I agree that it feels good to sit out multiple challenges then re-enter when you feel you have a good photo...even if the voters disagree!

Good point.
For this reason I stated in the OP 15 out of last 20 (or something of that sort). Then you don't HAVE to enter every single challenge.

@colda - I feel kinda empty if I have no UPDATE button to press :)

I think the idea of 'Invitational Challenges' is wholly wrong. There will always be someone (myself included) who will rant at being left out.

Much better to have 'speed challenges' or 'month long open challenges' which are inclusive rather than exclusive.

Just my thoughts.

I think that such invitational challenge conditions would stimulate to enter crap in every challenge offered to just be able to be allowed to take part in one extra challenge.
