Let me introduce my yearly passion:
Poway High Wrestling
These guys are very strong contenders for taking the State Championship this year in California and just set a new record at this Tournament, with 323.5 team points. (2nd place came in at 173.0 for reference)
Following the team every year (now my 3rd year), doing their photography and making high-resolution, printable versions available later (these were only 800x600 100K web-friendly versions for now) and doing the website has been a blast.
Every year the compositions and Post-processing gets better, greatly due to what I have learned here on DPC, and that in turn is something the families of these athletes, myself included, greatly appreciate.
Thanks all.

| Nice to see that you aren't just limiting yourself to beating up the competition here. |

The 2 day tournaments beat me up!
I rarely get a break, as I have to keep an eye on who is on the mats, and who is coming up next.
I often have to scamper around between as many as 9 mats, then spend a good deal of the days (8-10 hours) on one knee composing/shooting.
This old body needs a day to recover after these meets.

| Some nice shots there Brad. Looks like a fun sport to shoot. How did you get involved in this? Just being nosey. :) |

Thanks.
My son has been wrestling for about 8 years now, and is in his Senior year there. He is currently ranked 7th in the State of California.
(I did a few years myself back in HS too)

Very nice shots Brad.
I do a similar thing for my kids Crew teams (rowing). In fact, last weekend I put on a video/slide presentation for the end of the year banquet. If you (or anyone reading this) ever has to do that, check out MemoriesOnTV, which makes a boring slide show into a very nice professional show. The key is the Ken Burns effect (as it's called, which basically gives the perspective of it being a video shoot, where you are panning and zooming on the photos as they are being displayed). The best thing is that it's not a lot of work--the effect happens pretty automatically, and 90% of the time, seems perfect for the photo. Add a little appropriate (and funny) music and you have a nice show. |
