This is my first challenge...my votes so far range from 1, to 4, to 8....jeez, people vote weird.

I'm not addicted to refreshing the vote stats or anything XD

Good luck to everyone else, I've seen a LOT of amazing shots so far @_@

Edit: I'm referring to Yellow, by the way.

i'm assuming you r talking about the yellow challenge in which case....

You are not supposed to vote according to a pattern. You are supposed to look at the photos and rate them ;-)

I think it's because this one seems so much more open to interpretation than some of the past challenges I've looked through...

I'll admit, I'm not really using much of a set pattern when voting...I just keep the description somewhere in the back of my mind and vote depending on how I feel.

My high and low votes are consistently cancelling each other out, at least XD

So far, my first time scoring under 4. This will be a very long week for me!!

You just got some unhappy early voter. How many votes did you get already? I only have two!

From your past photos, I trust you will do much better.

i went with a last minute entry instead of this, and in the last minute i tried to switch it back but ran out of time...

what would you have given this?
(sorry for hijacking the thread)

Sannok,
When I first became a member and could click that update button it only took me a few times to see it can be a double edge sword so to speak. It’s nice being able to see votes come in every minute but the down side is you can see what those votes are. I have had challenges where I would receive several votes above 6 and then I click the [update] button and a 1 vote shows up. I still keep track of my votes just because I like math, stats, and data but I don’t let the votes bother me anymore. Everyone here will see the same picture in a different way [the beauty of voting] and your results will rest on the average of the mass. As long as your like your photograph and bond with it, you have a winner. Sit back and enjoy your first challenge and I wish you the best

Thanks so much, but I think this one really is going to sink with the voters. Oh, well, I like it and the ones I kept as outtakes. So I guess I'll just have to live with the 3!

Oh yeah, I really could honestly care less what people think of my photo, I'm just a math geek and I like watching numbers fly by. That 8 gave me a slight ego boost, but my less-than-fours aren't really bothering me. I like my picture, I don't care if anyone else does XP

I tend to think that sites like this start to take away from the point of photography (or art in general) because I already see people hung up in taking pictures just because they think it will score, not because it has any personal significance or something like that...I mean, a nice technical setup may be able to cover up a lack of emotion and land a decently high, but I'd rather just take a picture because I think I'd like how it'll turn out.

I would have given it a 6 I think. I don't know if that is good or bad news to you. TO make you feel better, I am sitting on my lowest score ever, so I am not very good advice right now! LOL

Probably a five, just considering the tight competition on this challenge...

i'm turning off my scores now, before it gets any uglier...

I could not put together the picture I wanted so I didn’t enter this challenge [Yellow]. I guess I need to go start voting. Good luck to everyone!
PS: I cannot believe I could not come up with something yellowâ€Â¦

Jeez - 11 votes and I have had the whole range from a 10 to 1! It will be a long week.
12/08/2004 12:50:29 AM · #17
I was doing ok, but it's amazing what a 1 can do to your score when you only have 5 votes ;-)
12/08/2004 12:54:25 AM · #18
After the couple of overenthused early voters, I think the extrema have cancelled each other out...my score's stablizing now.

...I only have 11 votes, I shouldn't be trying to judge the whole competition on this XD

I'm going to go write my English paper and see what happens afterwards.
