Just had to share my amazement at this 20D thing I bought myself for Xmas....
In the same vein as This thread.
Just mucking about this evening, took this shot of the wife's car in the drive with the sun setting behind it.
The only areas blown out to 255,255,255 are the direct reflections of setting sun, and some areas in the trees, and yet the tread is still visible in the tyre on the full sized copy.. (Although at this low res you can't really make it out)
So not only does it have almost no noise/grain compared to film, it's dynamic range is up there with a good ISO50 film IMHO.
The photo is so-so, but damn I like what I'm seeing. :-).
Cheers, Chris H.
(Still with a grin, and I've had the camera 3 weeks now..)

the quality of this bit of kit never ceases to amaze me... just got good news saturday morning - the Halifax bank just okayed me for a credit card with 0% interest on purchases for NINE months! once the little bit of plastic comes in, it'll be my new best friend because it'll be spendy spendy time, and getting myself a whizzer of a christmas present. Canon 20d, 28-135 IS USM wide lens, new memeory card (apparently 20d's don't accept 1GB microdrives) all from the US, at effectively two thirds the price as here... shwing! *bounce* oooh, excitement!
editted to say, nice MX-5! aren't they lovely? much nicer than the newer one. i miss pop-up headlights on cars...

How do you plan to avoid the dreaded VAT when you import it? I only ask because I am about to do the same thing, and really don't want to pay up! I priced the 20D here in Malta, but as much extra as it cost I could have flown to the US to buy it.
edited because I'm an idiot sometimes.

Just a FYI, I bought my 20D via a (reputable) reseller on ebay, which was a lot cheaper than buying in the UK, and they even paid the import duty for me! :D

That sounds dangerous! :-) I saved and scrimped for a while to make sure I didn't get myself in hock to get the camera... Of course now I'm looking at getting the 580ex, 24-70 F/2.8 L, and the 16-35 F/2.8 L, and the.... How can you say Finance?

Ay, a great wee car. We've had it since '98, and we've taken it from one end of NZ to the other a couple of times. I dunno what Mazda where thinking with the new one. The new model is not anywhere near as much fun to drive, and you're right about the lights, the pop-up's are much more 'classic sports car'.
Cheers, Chris H.

I'd be very interested in knowing who that was as well. I am going to be ready to buy, hopefully, in the next couple or three weeks.

I bought from DigitalRev (www.digitalrev.com), who are based primarily in HK. They've also got a UK contact, a good support setup (since I badgered them regularly for updates :) and a good warranty arrangement, so there shouldn't be any problems there.
