hey guys!

i got a problem (challenge if i may ...). i bought a Sony DSC Cyber-Shot F-717 recently and it was working fine till last week. now when i shoot still images they come out realy bright (whitish and foggy with white stripes across, the white stripes come on only occasionaly). know any reason as to why this is happening. all other features (video mode, night framing, etc) are working fine. i even tried reseting the camera back to its factory defaults... NO LUCK. Sony support and a few others tell me its got somthing to do with "white balancing". i tried a few things inline with the user guide, yet ... SAME RESULT. have i messed up a setting in the camera. anyone got experience in a F717 (Cyber-Shot), help out please. to make matters worse, i am in a Asian Country on assignment (SRI LANKA) and don't know where to even find a service center. i've come across a few topics on here regarding the F717, so i bet u guys can help me. if u can at least give me some useful tips on white balance with regard to this Camera (may be stuff not stated in the manual), it'll be great.

P.S. u can also email me at thilaand007@yahoo.com and with regard to the second reply, it did work fine for a couple of weeks in Sri Lanka.

thanx guys

Hello, sorry to hear about the problem you are having. Hmmmm, do you have and image that we can see and look at it. This might help to see the problem from our side. Also, I thought that it might be that it's over exposed, yet, scraching my head on the white lines....Not sure. I have a Sony F-717 and never had faced this problem. It could be a bad card? Try useing another card. (shrugs) Hmmmm, perhaps, depending on the last time you used your camera and the time you have arrived to Asia, mostly likey by plane....you have had to go through and your camera through a x-ray machine, which might zap your storage cards....Good luck :)

Funny, because I just had that problem about a week ago.

I was going to send it in as well. But, by miracle, it started working again, just fine, with no more problem. My prayers and petions were answered by the one on high and I am back to giving him glory again.

I really doubt whether it has anything to do with white balance, it does not make sense. But easy to test : just press the first button (the most right one if you're looking from the left side) on the lens barrel until no symbol is shown on the LCD/EVF (the button with the second small button underneath). Now it is on auto white balance.

The white streaks are concerning, this is not caused by any camera setting. With very bright highlights you can sometimes see streaks on the LCD/EVF but they never show up in the image itself (it is also explained in the manual).

My best guess would be some electronic contact inside the camera which causes it.

I had yellow/blue smears on the LCD/EVF, even in the menu's, which was a specific problem with a contact to the LCD/EVF. I opened up my camera, took it apart and also managed to put it back together again, which solved the problem.

If you want to try look at this thread..

Could it have something to do with condensation inside the camera, you mentioned being in Asia ?

Condensation could have been very possible with my situation as well. Like it condesated (being near ocean, shooting drips, brief rain shots, cold weather to warm house), and may be why it was ok after a few days.
