My question is, are masks applied to the whole image for the purpose of darkening the edges of a photo allowed within the basic editing rules? So a mask is applied to the whole image (a mask that's opaque except around the edges), and then with the flood fill tool a solid color applied on top of the mask, the mask deleted, and the mask layer set to normal (no dodging or burning). I did search the forums for an answer to this question before posting here but apologize beforehand if this is redundant. Thanks! |

If what you're going for is the creation of a border, and the result is clearly identifiable as a border, then it's OK. If it is done as an effect, i.e. to vignette, then it is not allowed, since selection tools are not allowed in basic rules (except to crop as explicitly stated in the rules).

Thanks for your response, kirbic. I WAS going for the vignette effect, and hadn't thought of it as a selection, but it does make sense to think of it that way. Now I'll have to change my "Yellow" entry! :) |
