Just wondering if any S1 owners out there have bought the optional telephoto and wide angel lenses. do they make much difference? are they worth the money?
Thanks

Can't vouche for the S1 (I think mechanics are close) but I got the Adapter + Teleconverter for the Powershot Pro1 and it got me into places that I couldn't with the x7 zoom of the Pro1 itself. It was a lot of glass ($199 worth to be exact) but on the pro1 it was well worth it.
The only problem that I had with it was in order keep people from zooming out and creating barrel effect, cannon locked the zoom range from about 37-50.1 (280mm to 300mm equivalent) making that instant close up impossible (it takes like a minute to put it on or take it off). On the pro1 you have to tell it in the menu that you have the adapter on and that is how they lock you in.
The range and clarity is outstanding on the canon piece of glass I got.
They are quite large...

I've "heard" that the telephoto ($199) is pretty good, the $99 wide-angle not so much so. You also have to buy a $30 adapter/hood contraption to use them. Since I shoot mostly handheld, I've stuck with the already tricky-to-handle 10x zoom for now.
However, I got the camera partly to have the flexibility those lenses provide, so I'm also interested in hearing more about these. |

I have the 1.6x tele-converter and love it. I'd suggest hitting Ebay for the adaptor tube, they are steel and $10-15 as opposed to Canon's $30 plastic one that I'm always afraid I'm going to cross thread and destroy. It's nothing more then a tube with a fitting on both ends so I can't imagine it not working as well as Canon's.
I'd also reccomend getting multiple adaptor tubes so you can change lens and filters very quickly and easily.
As for the tele-converter, here are some of my shots using it:
