they all look pretty good to me. a bit hazy out it seems for the two high vantage point shots.
also it appears the horizons are bit tilted in a couple of them.
nice work.

I like this one the most. A closer shot of the wave patterns would have made an interesting subject, looks like the beach there had great texture.
So what were you hunting? |

interesting locale and presentation in all of your pictures - although i agree that it does look a bit hazy in a few of the high vantage point shots (damn that weather! :\). the large rock in 'keel beach' seems to overpower the photo maybe slightly more than desired, not exactly sure why (possibly is related to the haze, possible something else - not sure). nice shots.

Thanks for the comments guys,
It was a little hazy but coming into winter on Achill most days are, only on the very best summer days is it real clear.
Brianlh - I though the rock in the foreground might add something extra to the picture. I was asked to replicate a shot done by a local photographer on the Island for a relative. In his shot there is a smaller rock but it worked well. Think i might revisit at the weekend if weather is good and take a few more with different rocks?? |

For myself, I would want you to pay some attention to your composition. The shots are fine - for my taste they are in general a little flat in terms of contrast, but that is absolutely a judgement call.
I feel that these don't quite sit happily in the framing you've chosen. for instance, in the Keel Beach shot, you have the very strong compositional element of that curving sweep of beach, a line that your viewer's eye will naturally be drawn to and will follow: yet that curve takes the eye from only the centre of frame down to the bottom, where it meets the inevitable secondary subject of that rock - which you haven't managed to fit into the frame completely. I think I would have shot this from a step or two further forward, and with more of an angle dwnwards, to include that rock completely and allow that beach to be more completely visible and provide a line that happily takes the eye out to the headland beyond, and would also balance those three strong elements of the shot more evenly across your frame. Something like the other Keel shot, except there I don't really find a particular foreground subject to hold enough attention, and this balance the shot.
It would be easy and trite to say simply that your horizon line is too central in all the shots. Better perhaps to look at why that composition isn't working - the minaun cliffs shot is the closest you get i think. The balance of elements has to be right for this to work - most often with centred or near-centred compositions this seems to be require a near absolute reflection of shapes or interest either side of that line - in most of these shots, I think you have left weaker areas of sky trying to hold too much of the photograph. The Minuan Cliffs shot functions better because there is more drama in the sky to balance the shape and strong impact of the cliff line - except in that shot there are different problems from your post-processing (or lack of) - the relative brightness of the cloud edges and the cliffs (rather than the headland silhouette).
A note of explanation - by interest I do not mean 'interesting to the mind', but more like 'possessing those qualities that attract and hold the eye'.
Just some rapid thoughts. HTH

Hi,
They look good but hazy. I tried to take a bit of haze out on one to see what it would look like. What̢۪s your take on it?
- less haze

SDW65 - Wow! That's quite an improvement. Could you be so kind and briefly tell me the steps you took to alter the image? |

I will be glad too. Don't have the time right now but look for it later today. Thank you for your comment.
