Coincidentally, I received a letter in the mail yesterday from an attorney who wanted to compliment me on one of my photographs. He explained that his firm two years ago acquired an historic building (the Prudential Building) in Buffalo, NY. He was involved in the acquisition activities, and currently does periodic research on the building via Google.
The skinny of it... A photograph I have for sale, and had entered in the 'Unusual Perspectives' challenge in May, came up in his Google hit list when he searched for "Prudential Building". It may have been page 3 or whatever, but it was quite a pleasant surprise to get the letter.
Long live the Internet! |

I'm surprised it wasn't a notice of pending copyright infringement litigation. :P |

My name is taken from Lord of the Rings. So my dpc profile doesn't even show up in the top gazillion pages of a yahoo! search. |

hmmm...maybe that's why he invited me on an inside tour of the building. Or would that be entrapment?? |

CODE and GoldBerry, don't give up too easily. I just checked mine, and of course there are oooooodles of Beetles (which, btw, is my "real life" nickname) around, but I did find the link to my profile on page 5. |

A local magazine Googled for images of Huddersfield, as a result my photos have been on the front of 2 of them, which everyone in my town has noticed without my pointing out. I've also written an article for them, and I've been interviewed and will have a full page feature about me and my photography, which is VERY generously written with loads of praise.
I've also got one of my photos on the front of a crisp packet through Googling... all this was though DPChallenge. Hoorah for DPChallenge! |

Since they seem so amenable, make sure you take along a release for them to sign covering future photos : ) |

Google sucks. When I type in 'gloda' it finds my old homepage I abandoned 4 years ago, and then my dpc profile. At least it finds a subdirectory of my hp at the 15th entry. How's anybody supposed to find me?
So, thanks dpc: people will klick on my profile and see the link to my homepage :)) |

This is all great, however for myself I set my profile Email to Undisclosed.
Why? Because search engines like Google and others which archive any webpage that is out there on the internet. I didn't want my email published and accessible to everyone in the world, so I changed it to undisclosed when I saw that DPC does allow these robots to archive the whole website. If anyone does find my profile and they want to talk to me, they just need to use PM from my profile page.
But that's only my opinion.
Now, to use Undisclosed or not !?!?
Anyways, if DPC wasn't archived, I would have never found this great website that now I'm part of...

I noticed this a few months back and that’s why I took my email address off my profile page. So people [other than DPC users] cannot get my email. The email I use at DPC is my ‘good’ email address that I only give out to family and friends, and DPC. They can still PM me if they are a user but still don’t know my email. I have a ‘junk’ email address but didn’t want to give that to
DPC because I never check it.

I found DPC because it was on some magazine's list called 'Top 100 Sites You Didn't Know You Could Live Without' - I think the title fits perfectly what I think about the site.
