My camera decided to stop working consistently, and try something different and I don't know how to tell it to behave. It now randomly decides to incorrectly capture the scene.

The image good/the image bad:


I think it may be a shutter malfunction, like the shutter isn't closing/opening all the way, or is opening/closing at the wrong time, or something like that. It works some of the time (as you can see) but I wondering if there is anything I can do besides sending it in, paying lots of money, and missing it for however long. Any help (or a bump) would be appreciated?

Take it to a repair centre..?

It appears to be a shutter related problem. Does it seem physically different when you get the bad shots, perhaps a difference in noise or other aspect of operation? I noticed that the overexposed shots have a weird horizontal banding pattern. Does this normally occur with long exposures or deliberate overexposed shots?

Being a fixed lens prosumer type camera, I doubt there's anything you can do by way of disassembly or other type of repair. Perhaps other 717 owners can offer some suggestions.

Has your camera suffered a shock recently? I say this because it seems that it has a mis-contact (from an electrical connector/wire) inside. Its not only that the exposure is wrong but those lines across the images could indicate a connection problem.

My V1 was once hit, and sometimes the shots got totally black, I had to open it check evrything with great care as it comes highly packed, and retighten cover screws. I didnt see anything wrong but the problem solved.

Yes, there is a noticable difference in noise when the the malfunction image is taken. Instead of being a full snap, it is a little quieter, not quiet as bold.

Funny thing about the line across the image is that they only appeared when I resized them to 640. They aren't visible on camera, or visible in PS large size, but surprised me when they showed up.

Shock? Maybe, but I doubt it. If there was a major shock, it didn't happen while I was around it. Minor shocks: higher possibility, being jolted around in camera bag, set down, picked up, other things like this, but nothing that serious that I know of.

Setzler mentioned to me that it may also be a sensor problem. Well, if it is a sensor or shutter problem, I'll probably still have to ship it in.
