Thank you both for replying.

My 70-200 is f/2.8 through the entire range, it does have great shallow dof, and yes, I very much like the idea of being able to zoom in and out as necessary.

I do not have a "real reflector", but do have a large piece of white foamcore board that I plan to use as my reflector; I hope that it is sufficient.

Chris, I love that shot of your son. I'll play with the 50mm around the house tonight, if the dogs and my husband will cooperate, and see what I get.

I have been very disappointed lately that the majority of my shots are reading "dark" on the histogram, and I cannot figure out why everything I shoot seems dark.

Anyway, thanks for the help!

white poster board would/might work, and would be pliable so the model could curve it for a more soft bounce.

i actually use a piece of scrap matte board. white on one side, black on the other.

Thanks for mentioning the mat board, I have a large white mat board, and will try it too. I think I'll actually try to do test shots with both the mat board and the foamcore, and see what looks best.
