Was woken up today to be told there was a bear in our backyard. So, I grabbed the camera and ran outside. Unfortunately, the bear was in a hard to reach place, so I had to settle for shots from a poor vantage point. Anyway, I got these two shots off which are ok. Nothing spectacular, but just wanted to share what little excitement comes into my life. lol.

You should have brought out some Rainier beer, and then...

I'm certainly no expert but looks like a black bear and s/he's built a nice little nest. How cute and exciting! Is it still there or did it move on?

Yah, it's a young Black Bear.. probably yearling by the size. She/He moved on.. we couldn't have it hanging around here with kids about, so we banged on stuff until it left. Poor thing :/

So let me see if I get this straight...

You hear that there is a bear (presumably an animal that might find you to be a tasty early morning snack) and you run out TOWARDS the bear?!

You have far more courage than me! Had I been in that area, you would have seen me running in the opposite direction to that bear with my camera flailing wildly about my back...

Of course, I am a city boy...what do I know about those docile creatures anyways...;)

Nice image BTW...

Those are actually great shots I think - I love the composition between the trees and the white snow. Too bad the *little* guy or gal had branches crossing his face. Glad you didn't get TOO brave, though - we'd miss you here!

They are pretty common.. we have outdooor garbage bans in our area and restricted times for putting it out for pick-up, because of the attraction it gives bears to enter the neighborhoods

Thanks :) They're pretty basic snapshots IMO, but we're our own worst critics. lol. I wasn't going for good pictures anyway.. I just wanted to show the bear
