Hey guys,
I was just about to purchase Photoshop when i decided to do a search for "psp8 .nef files"

when i got the following results which i though i would share with you all.

I use Paintshop Pro (v8.02) in preference to Photoshop, mainly because of cost considerations and my familiarity with the former over many years. However, Paintshop Pro had one big disadvantage: it would not open D70 NEF files properly.

Then I had the idea of pointing it at the Nikon View .8bi plugins - which did not quite work. However, I still had Nikon Picture Project installed on my PC so I pointed Paintshop Pro at the .8bi plugins there.
Voilà, perfect! All the EV adjustment etc. works as it should.

For anyone wanting to try this, the navigation in Paintshop Pro is

File > Preferences >File locations >Plugins

and then enter the path to Picture Project which on my machine is:

C:\Program Files\Nikon\Pictureproject

I suspect the Nikon plugins reference various .dlls that are installed with Picture Project and that the .8bi files would not work by themselves but I do not know that for a fact.
Finally a use for Picture Project!

Now i can open my Raw D70 files in PSP8 and i must say the results are great. i just printed a file to my Canon i4000 Photo printer on full A4 Glossy paper and just as good as anything you can buy.

If you all know this already then sorry for the wasted few mins you have taken from your photo lifes to ead this :-)

Cheers
Darren

Thanks Darren

I'm using Capture 4.1 and PS CS, I loved PSP for years and I'm glad to hear its working with NEF files. I'm sure it will help many people.
