I am a newbie, so please be gentle, I know I have much to learn. Today I was playing around with lighting and using my new tripod. No flash used. Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
2 and 3rd photo I played around a little in Photoshop. Thank you for any and all helpful comments. I'm trying to learn.
Thanks Again.

Looks to me like you are really applying yourself and trying all kinds of new things with your camera - so congrats!!! I hardly ever do indoor work with lighting, so I won't even try to advise you. The middle one looks really nice and sharp on my monitor. A tiny flare of light on his nose, and a little dark on the right. Just wanted to say hello and tell you that you are doing great!

If you are lighting from the left, you should use a fill flash or reflector (just right of center) so you don't lose all the detail on the right side. Unless, of course, that's the effect you were going for..in which case, ignore what I said. :-)
Edit: typo

Well I am not qualified in critiqueing or anything else for that matter. But I would say the right side of the photo has too much black. The detail is gone. Try what cbeller said with the reflector. I like the middle picture best, the color is rich and stands out more. Well I guess that'd be it. |

Thank you all! I was wondering how to get that side lighter with out using to much harsh light. I am going to try a reflector.
Thank you :-)

The photos are good and nice dog. ;) but i think the photos should be lightene on the right side too. But if you want really to give infase to the dog try to use it against a white sheet or brighter backgrounds. This is just another tip for you to experiment. But they are getting some shape. nice work and the 2 photo the colors are more vivid i like it, with this i mean the brown part of the dog stands quite well.

Thank you. You are reading my mind! I am going to get plain white sheets to practice with. Don't laugh at me, all my sheets have flowers and designs all over them!! LOL LOL :-)
