Can someone give me tips on how to take silhouttes?

it's fairly easy but requires either that you place your subject between the camera and the ambiant light source (sun, window ect) or that you use a separate lightsource to eithe totaly backlight the subject or to light a surface behing the subject. |

If the background is brighter than your subject, meter from the background and shoot.
Otherwise have more light available in the background and read the background and expose for that. Background will come out nicely exposed but because of the different in the amount of light, the foreground will be too dark for detail, making it a silhouette. |
