So I just got my camera today. It doesn't seem to have the eye cup. Did yours come with an eye cup? Was it on the camera or in the box(i.e. could I have dropped it somewhere when I opened it)?

A bit off your topic--I have a Canon eye cup that I must have got with either my Canon Rebel, Canon G2, or Canon ZR-85 video. I tried to fit it to the rebel, but couldn't see how it fit. Could it be from the rebel?

If not, does anyone know where you can get an eyecup for the Rebel?

If so, how do you attach it!

Mine came with one as well...

I'd call your dealer/shop and ask where it is... Possibly someone fondled the camera and dropped it from the packaging..

Mine was fitted when I picked up the camera as I asked the shop to do the 1.0.5 firmware update and test the camera first. So I'm not sure if it was seperate in the packaging or not.

It came with the rubber cup as per:

Cheers, Me.

The eyecup for the 300D is model EF, you should be able to buy one, or get one ordered, at any decent camera shop (unfortunately becoming rarer by the day). Push the eyecup on the camera up to remove it, I find it easiest to use a thumb either side with my fingers on each 'shoulder' of the camera body.

Thanks. I just went to search for it online, and interestingly found it listed in the std equipment (at least on this site) in the dRebel kit. So maybe that's where I got it?

EOS Digital Rebel Body, EF-S 18-55mm f/ 3.5-5.6 Lens, Battery Charger CB-5L, Battery Pack BP-511, Interface Cable IFC-300PCU, EOS Solution Disk, Adobe Photoshop Element Disk, Video Cable VC-100, Wide Strap EW-10DBII, Eyecup Ef, Lithium Battery CR2016.

But if so, I'm apparently still too dense too see how to install it (I already messed with the rubber 'seal' around the viewfinder thinking that after I removed that, the eye cup would slide under the bottom of the plastic end of the viewfinder, only to find the seal was VERY hard to get back on. It took several tries before it stopped falling off again while I was using the camera.

Is there a manual page or something to show how it fits? It sounds like it "pushes on"? You said: "Push the eyecup on the camera up to remove it". Sounds like you are telling me how to take it off?

an eye cup? Maybe I haven't had enough coffee yet...

Are ya'll talking about the little rubber thingie that frames the viewfinder? It wasn't mounted on the camera when you bought it?

Please help me, I'm confused ;-)

An eyecup is a rubber "extension" for the viewfinder that "seals" around the eye so light does not enter from the sides while looking in the viewfinder. It sort of looks like an eggcup for the eye--shaped to fit the eye. With my dRebel, and without an eyecup, I often find myself using my hand to cover the side of my eye to block the light.

The eyecup is the rubber mounted on to a plastic frame. The frame slips over a mount on the camera and snaps into place with a couple of latches at the base. If you've managed to remove the rubber it sounds like you might left the plastic piece in situ. Why did you try removing it to start with?

And it's supposed to be in the box? I thought those things were 'cost extra' accessories.

hahaha... that's only if you buy from those "price is too good to be true" places, where they sell you back everything that is normally "in the box"... =]

I didn't remove it. It was never attached to my rebel, if you are asking me. There is a rubber gasket around the plastic viewfinder frame I tried removing figuring that it would reveal some method to slide on, or flip open and attach the rubber eyecup. But it didn't seem to open or attach, and then it was VERY difficult to get the rubber gasket back in place.

My eyecup doesn't appear to have a plastic frame--only the rubber. It looked to me like the plastic on the rebel flips up, that's why I removed the gasket. It's back on pretty solid now, but I am still without the eyecup attached.

if you have a good relationship with a camera store you should be able to walk in and have them give you one. Same with lens caps and the misc straps they usually have kicking around.

Unless Canon have changed the design that is the eyecup.

Ok, now the $1,000,000 question: How do you attach it?

$1,000,000 question? Must be inflation, didn't it use to be $64,000? ;)

Hopefully a picture is still worth a thousand words:

Taken from the 300D manual, and yes I know it shows the removal of the eyecup - fitting it is the reverse.

Aha! So that's what that weird thing on the strap is for! :o) The eyecup on my 20D seems fairly straight-forward to remove - slide it up, that's all...
