Just wondering, I hoped for a slighly better result with my entry

Would this have done any better ?

I thought it was a little over the top, hence my choice.

15th not high enough? ;)

not entirely sure how universally recognised a symbol the poppy is in the world, but i think you captured it wonderfully, and the shot you chose is far better than the alternative you included above. the over the topness isn't really an issue, but i feel the crop is far too narrow and the setting up doesn't seem, er, reverential enough. i think your challenge submission has far greater emotional impact. so well done!

editted for appalling grammer

Sorry David, I am very pleased with the placing,
Thanks for the input, looks like I chose right.

I agree with David, you definitely made the right choice. Also 15th is a good place to be.

I personally would have placed your entry higher that some of those above you but, there you go, the voice of the voters has spoken.

I didn't notice at the time but, after reading your comments about cloning out some leaves, there are some "smudges" to be seen where the leaves must have been.

Its a great shot though, one I wish I'd seen on the day, well done.

I thought someone may notice the " smudges " actually there were some dirty footprints and a stain where the wreath had been laid flat, probably blown over, it had been there for weeks.
I'm not the best cloner in the world :)

Your challenge entry is great and I am surprised that it did not do better.

It is definitely better than your outtake. I really like it, as I mentioned in my comment and gave it an 8.

Congrats on a 15th. You do nice work.

While I can't imagine why no one gave this a 3 or 4 at least you didn't have ANY 1s or 2s! I consider that quite remarkable. :D I gave it a high score. I loved the contrast as well as the appropriateness of the subject.

My "Heros" entry finished in 10th place. I had originally hoped that it would ribbon, but I believe the gritty, violent nature of the photo worked against a higher score. Thanks to everyone who commented during the challenge. As the photographer's note explains, it's not real, it's a museum exhibit in the WI Veteran's Museum in Madison. When I looked at my shots after that visit, I was amazed by how close to human the figures looked. I've got some shots of Civil War soldiers, and WWII marines that are equally realistic. I chose this one because of the inherent drama.
