It would be great to be able to click a button in my profile to see at a glance which of my photos were selected as favorites and who picked them.

break the animal gallery down into animals/ insects/ birds.

& not so much a site suggestion but a suggestion to the users:

be less ambigious when you leave a comment ... if youre gonna say you hate something, at least drop a clue as to why ;)

A Sales message forum?

I don't know, but maybe a message forum dedicated for people who want to sell their photo equipment or other equipment.

Also...

While looking at your own or others profiles, the option to sort statistics.

Example: I go into a profile and click on SCORE and it will sort the scores from highest to lowest. Or click on VIEWED and see the users most viewed photos down to thier least viewed. Etc..Etc...

This should have been in place years ago. The lack of this feature is one of the most annoying issues to be addressed. I can't imagine this would take long.

3) About the forums: I don't understand why your camera is listed under your name (is your input more important when it is a dSLR?). This site is about photography and one of the things I liked about the old dpc was that your latest submission showed under your name. I'd like to see that restored.

For some reason, I don't remember this. Does the latest submission expire after awhile? As someone with a tendency to submit once every 8 months, I'm not sure I want to spend that long looking at some crappy entry I made ages ago. But also under the username, it'd be nice to see the online status (and possibly location?).

I think in DPC I the thumb of the photographer's most recent entry showed under their name. I think it was eliminated with DPC II, partly because there were now multiple challenges/week, and to cut down on bandwidth in the forums -- it forces display of 20-30 thumbs on every page, not counting what people actually include in their posts.

hm, that was an awfully long time ago, but it seems like they were only there for the week after the challenge ended, then were replaced with your new shot--or you just had nothing. i could be wrong though, hard to remember exactly. also, the location thing could be interesting, but might not work since not everyone specifies their location in their portfolio.

You remember it well Alecia. One week only, nothing new resulted in nothing under your name.

You imagine wrong; it will require some changes to the database architecture, which is why it hasn't been implemented yet. Please see ClubJuggle's reply in this recent thread where he mentions talking to Drew about the issue.

re: images under name

I think that is a good feature that could be reimplemented; with links, if not with images. But, with caching, server- and client-side both, would there really be that much of an increase in server load by using thumbs? I would think space in the forums would be the biggest concern. The plusses for this are tremendous; with the decrease in free time and the increase in challenge entries (both in number of entries per challenge and in number of challenges) it is hard enough to find time to look through the thumbs (not to mention voting and commenting -- which I have been very lax in lately :( ), it is nearly impossible to find the time to go back though and match photographers to the images. Sure there are a few I make a point of looking up again, but this would make a no-effort connection between user and image each time they post to the forums.

Here are a few things I would like to see DPC implement in 2005
1. After the challenge is over you could go to your image. Then in the ‘Statistics’ area be able to click on the votes [bar graph in he voting breakdown are] and a drop down menu would show who voted that score. Example: If you had 60 users vote you a ‘5’, you could click on the ‘5’ bar graph and it would show those 60 users. The same throughout the complete 1-10 scale.
2. In the profile area under favorites let the user be able to view photographs marked as favorites the same way you can view photographers.
3. > 10mb of portfolio space.
4. Search photo activated under photo drop down menu.

I've got another thread out but i'll post the idea here too.(my hasn't gotten many views)

heres my Q if some ppl want com. to be anonymous and others think the author should be known, Why can't we do bolth?

all it would need to be would be another blank block on the voting pg. under the comments 1 we have now, and it would only need to say to keep your comment anonymous enter it in here.

or u could just have button/icon at the bottom of the comment block that would say to keep yourself anonymouse click here.

just a way to bring peace to the whole subject. so figured i would through the idea out there.

also it could be an option in your preferences "Keep my comments anonymous" click yes or no.

i gess its as simple as, Why can't we have bolth?

I think it's extremely unlikely we would do away with anonymous voting.

While we are discussion (amoung other things) additional stats, how about an option to show a photographers statistacally highest voters? Similar to 'Statistically favorite Photographers' that is currently available, but would show the photographers that have statistacally rated me highest (from a personal perspective) instead of the photographers I have rated the highest.

It would balance the scale a bit without sacrificing anonymity.

I'd like to see the option of having email notifications when comments are received on your photos.

Please consider adding a SKIP button on the page of challenge entries in addition to the 1 thru 10 voting scale. In my first run through a new challenge, I try to pick out what I consider to be "contenders" and group them together with votes of 7. Later, I review all these 7 votes and refine my ranking by bumping selected pics to 8, 9 or 10. One use of SKIP would be to accomodate this method of voting. It would also be useful whenever a voter comes to a photo that they're not sure about...
"...let me come back to this one later..." Haven't you done that from time to time?

After voting on all of the images in a challenge, skipped photos could be grouped together just as photos of a particular score already are grouped, allowing the voter to review and vote on those as s/he desires.

I believe that's what the >> is for. It takes you to the next picture without casting a vote...
