my computor crashed like in totally crashed. i tried, and cried, all day to restore and even resorted to formatting, my last resort.... still crashed. why, how....well i dont know, i have nortons and nortons firewall, this should have been adequate protection but it's not..! for the past few days norton warned me of some ip address wanting to enter my computer so maybe the invisible dog mf savage got in. i just dont know.

so, for all my fans and foes and friends out there, i'll be off line for a while ;-( .

all i can do is to play with my new canon rebel in the mean time... imagine my frustration to not being able to see the new toy's results!!!

you guys, be carefull out there... and save save save your work. this is a very, very expensive lesson for me. i will drop in whenever i can.... be good.

How about checking the motherboard connections?
Try to pull out all the unecessary hardware and external hardware. If you have two memory banks filled pull out one and test the system with one left, try with both modules. Run with the motherbord video only.

Another solution: Throw the computer out of the window, smack it silly with a hammer, override it with your car and let the dog piss on it. Doesn't get you back online but you'll feel a lot less frustrated and it offers plenty of photograph opportunities.

I know it does no good now, but I never reformat a drive that appears to be either infested, or corrupted so that the OS won't boot. I simply replace the drive, install the OS to a new drive, then mount the old drive as a slave and pick through to get any needed files off. For future reference.
Sorry to hear about your circumstance, I know it's a frustrating experience.

Who knows what caused the problem, but I can tell you that Norton is BUNK. Just an inadequate, over-rated and sorry, sorry program.

I picked up Panda antivirus from Staples, maybe $65.00 if I remember correctly which I probably don't. Get the Platinum version with anti-virus and anti-spyware.

Before I installed Panda I did one last full system scan with an updated Norton. Nothing. System clean. Installed Panda and ran a scan and it came up with 49 malicious programs running on my system.

Thanks for nothing, Norton.

System has been virus / spyware free ever since. Panda catches everything. Give it a look.
