just got it, read whatever i could but can not find how to control,ie, turn the auto flash on and off as it suits me. some advise please? took some great pics today... mmmmmmmmm!!

I don't know that there is a way to turn it off in auto mode. Using the program modes (AV, TV, M, etc), it won't come on automatically.

Use the "P" mode. It is like the auto mode, except with slightly more control. To use the flash, press the button on the side of the flash to pop it up. To turn it off, simply don't pop it up.
