Solids coming in second; gases dead last. 8-)
Gases aren't great for macros, I guess. Won't hold still long enough to compose a shot, usually... |

I believe 7 of the top 10 pictures had liquid in it and all of the ribbon winners.

doesn't it strike you odd that 6 out of the top 10 photos in macro have water drops in them ?
yes, it looks cool, and those photos really are good photos, but come on, there were so many other good photos that are positioned 100+ 200+ ...
why is that ? |

Well I guess that 182 is down the line a bit but I'm happy that it is at least in the top third of entries, I must be getting better. |

Next macro challenge: Macro Without Bugs or Flowers or Liquid Drops. :)
They were pretty good though, especially Yanik's (KosmikKreeper). |

I would love for some of the top 20 "drop" photos would upload a "How'd They Do That" tutorial. I've tried water drops. I can't get them to work. And, yes, I've read the How'd They Do That on the water drop that's already posted and yes, I've searched the forums but came up empty. I can't get those perfect little drops of water to hang on anything long enough to photograph them. And I tried to put some drops on top of glass for a macro course I'm taking and they all flattened out -- they wouldn't stay nice and puffed up. So, those of you who are good at water drops, please help the rest of us with a little insight :D Thanks in advance |

Hi DiAnna,
I won't say I good with water drops but fairly decent with shampoo...
Actually a lot of what you see in photographs and commercials is not what you think it is. In commercials, milk in the cereal bowl is often water with elmer's glue in it (so I've read anyway).
In regards to the water drops flattening out, try this next time:
Wax the glass with car wax, just as you do to the car. Those drops will bead up and won't want to get near the glass.

Happy to help.
I did forget a few other household formulas that will accomplish the "look": Karo syrup, Glycerine, Honey, even ear drop medicines.
