BradP at the moment. Be sure to use capital letters. |
What/whom should I sacrifice to appease him? |
Without doubt, a triptych style border! |
bingo! LOL
now, how do I do that? print out some and burn 'em? singly or en masse? should I take photos of the flames and send 'em to BradP :) |
Yes, that way he can run them through NeatImage a couple of times and pop out another ribbon winner or two... ;o) |
This is serious hilarious and made my day!
Now to figure out how to wipe the sheepish grin off my face...ROFL |
In your profile, you didn't have to put yourself behind bars. I like ya!

Since this is only my second challenge, I kept my expectations low. Right now I have:

which I consider quite good. I've already voted my piece, and I think we all might be a little harsh on ourselves unnecessarily. There are a lot of shots to review and probably most will fall in the 5-6 range.
I tend to grab my first impression; if it is ho-hum and nothing grates on me, the shot is a 5. They can't all be winners. The ones that cause me to look twice, or say "wow" get a higher mark. Then at the end, I review my top shots and adjust as necessary so that the one I like gets my best score. This is my way to cope with such a large number of entries.
The winners will float to the top based on everybody's "wow" shots adding up. |

You know, I understand why, too. I need to remember: would I hang it on my wall? If 'no', then shouldn't post it, and try a different image. |

IMHO, scores in the 4-5 range usually stem from an uninteresting choice of subject, not your skill with the camera. If you don't get comments, it's often because of a "yeah, whatever" subject that just doesn't provoke conversation. Unless you get lucky, high scores are conceived long before you pick up the camera. Finding a subject that fits the challenge is only part of the equation- you then have to figure out how to provoke a positive reaction (laughter, wonder, surprise, etc...) from your audience before you shoot. It took me a long time to figure that out. |

Just remember you may not hang it on your wall, but everyones tastes are different. What appeals to you may not appeal to your neighbor. ;) |

I knew this one wouldn't do well, not even sure why I submitted. I took some great shots of my daughter, but I couldn't enter her again (although it does seem to guarantee me at least a six).

I couldn't agree more! There is a dead zone between 4 and 6 where you get usually get very few comments. This usually means technically good, but you just didn't grab the viewer's attention. I haven't made it out of this zone yet, but I think you have to put away the technical books on photography and start learning how to see beyond the standard ordinary image.

I have a 5,7 and 6 komments, all good once, 2 saying they gave the pic an 8 and a 9 and 2 have added it to their favorites and yet the score is very "low" considering the comments. I'm wondering if, when there are sooo many pictures, people just go trough the lot with the mouse on 5 or 6 untill they see a GREAT GREAT unusual picture and upper that one...!
Just a thought, I got comments from photographers on this site that I respect alot, all positive so I dunno, different taste to I guess! BUT I am very happy with my score, it beeing my first entery and all but I don't know, seems odd.
Again my pic is not a "ribbon" breed hehehe if ya know what I mean, but I think alot of GREAT picture from this contest might have an avarige score because most people don't bother really studying them... |

Translation: your photo will figure prominently in the "underrated photos" thread that will inevitably appear when this challenge is over. |

Needs to be sharper and I actually sharpened it, but didn't submit the sharpened one because didn't want to adjust the original at all. Lesson learned. My first entry. |

heh that musta been my comment I made on your image. That was my nice way of saying it was a nice shot but looks horrible in b&w and would probably have been better submitted in anything but a b&w contest. sorry I wasn't more blunt. |
