Thank you for all the positive comments and critical thoughts on my recent entry. I was pleased with the performance at 83% and thought the winners did great, however I am confused. I received 10 scores below 3 and 22 at 3. I was under the impression that if you dislike a photo that much, for content, form, fit, function, whatever, that you were supposed to put a comment in to 'help' the photographer improve or just know that you hate the subject therefore are unable to impartially assess the art form.
Since I rarely issue 3s and and if I do decide to give a 1 or 2 (rare) I make comments on the 'why' of it, I find it amazing that when I receive 7-10s there are usually positive comments though not always but when the photo gets hammered by ONLY a few there are rarely ever comments.
I want to make sure that I understand how this is supposed to work, despite how it appears to work...
Thanks all.

I just noticed this in a thread yesterday... but it appears that some members make a first pass to pull out images they don't think meet the challenge and then focus on voting for the others. Perhaps the low scores are simply people who thought this wasn't close enough to be a macro?

Actually, there are no "supposed to comment" scenarios.
Don't let the 1-3 scores get to you, they just happen, and to almost every photo. I've come to the conclusion that on an overall well-rated photo, there is no explaining bottom-third vote. It's either a matter of taste, or vindictive voters (I prefer to think the former).
Your overall score was quite good, and anything in the top 20% is excellent here, especially in such a large field.
