Keep in mind that the Sandisk 2GB Ultra II is only around $150-180 and considering its speed (tho not realized in the 10D) it's not a bad deal
$40/256 = $160/GB
$180/2GB = $90/GB
Consider the investment like that of your lenses. Fast cards, though perhaps not fully realized in your current body, certainly will benefit in a newer one...
2gb ultra II = ~1.8mb/s in the 10D
2gb ultra II = ~5.4mb/s in the 20D
Not to mention reliability. I've shot primarily with the 2GB since I got it, but also have a 1GB, 512 and 256 (all sandisk, ultra I or ultra II) and never had a problem in over a year and 20k actuations. |

It's actually about two times less... I bought my 4G hitachi micro drive back in May for $180. And today on pricewatch.com, 2G is going for around $90 and 4G is available for around $200... With one place allegedly offering a $50 rebate.
For the record, i love my micro drive. |

I loved the micro drive in my D30 (IBM, original 340m version), but I don't think I'd trust one anymore. I'm not all that soft on my equipment (though I do try to take special care of my CF cards) and I haven't seen great speed from them, either - at least not in the 10D. I've also run into a friend lending me one (2.2GB) that apparently draws too much power and will give errors, both in my camera and is Zaurus.
Just something to keep in mind when trying to save money. :) |

bump...what's the latest on cheap CF cards?
In Canada, Staples has a 512MB card (Sandisk?) for $50 CAD this week (after rebates - $90 before)...just make sure you're one of the 8% that bothers to mail them in or else it's not such a great deal!
What are the best deals going right now?

DealRam maintains a list of "cheapest" flash cards (along with other memory-related "stuff").
For example, here is the list of "512MB compact flash cards"; right now they show a 512MB card for US$34, shipped, no rebates. Other sizes are listed in the "clickable tabs" at the top.

Thanks Eddy...
As for the card I mentioned, it's a Lexar.
Here's the link
If it doesn't work just go to staples.ca and look at the current flyer, pg 6...It seems to be one of the best deals out there.

I just bought a 512 card at Walmart for $70 but it's only 4x I think so pretty slow (Sandisc). But it was the cheapest I found without going online again. (it's actually the same speed as the Lexar mentioned about from Staples).
The card I bought at Futureshop took about 2 weeks to come and when I went online to print off the coupon it wasn't there anymore. So I still paid $54 for it (it's a slow Sandisc - 256mb).

a few weeks back lexar had a rebate going....I ordered an 80x 1 gig card while at the photo expo from B&H
After the $30. rebate it came to only $60.
Pretty sure that rebate is over though, but you should always shop around.
