Well, I've just redone my website and finally completed the Europe gallery- lots and lots of html and captions. I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I haven't been seriously shooting in quite some time, and I'm startin' to feel the need again. A couple of those current challenges are lookin' mighty tasty....

Interesting to see that you've chosen a square aspect ratio for your portfolio. The symmetry looks really nice on the pages. I'm wondering if you consciously frame and compose for a square ratio when you are working in the field, or do you just shoot what comes naturally and look for the square crops later?

I did? :)

Actually, only the thumbnails are square- and that was intentional, just to take a "snippet" our of the full size image to draw the viewer's interest. As for the fullsize images, I shoot whatever comes naturally. If you check the dimensions of various different images, you'll see that all of them are 500px on the long end and any number of different lengths on the short end- some of them were previously cropped to be 8x10s, so when resized they ended up being 500x400. Some are 500x333, 500x375, etc. The only ones that were consciously done strictly square are these three: //titoi.com/people/DSCN8662.html

I thought the 'mouseover' image in the portfolio on the site was fun :-)

Thanks! There are actually a few of those:

//titoi.com/europe/DSCN7686.html
//titoi.com/europe/DSCN7808.html
//titoi.com/places/DSCN9207.html

The last one is by far the best of them- it lines up the most!

your 'last one' is the one I saw on the site. The others are good too -but I much prefer the autumn one, which is lined up well and interesting to see with the different light shining on it.

Very nice site! I love, particularly, that you put animals under People :)

Great photos too!

Thanks ;) I really do consider them quite people-like in some respects, plus, it allowed me to use the "people places things" idea for the gallery icons. Looking back that was probably a pretty silly idea ;). In reality the animals are just kind of place holders until I get some better people photos under my belt!!
