Just curious if you think this one mighta done better than 4.2 in the macro without bugs or flowers challenge.

Not likely. Not really anything to distinguish it. It's just a battery.

I think you have taken a good micro image here. The subject is not that exciting to me. There are a few things you could do that would have made it look better IMO.
1. See the line across the top of the ‘copper top’; I would have rotated it so that it would have been on the bottom. If the other side of the battery has the same writing.
2. Eliminate the shadow on the bottom. You could do this by placing the battery on clear glass about 2 in above the white base or a dim light coming from the right side of the picture.

Other than that it̢۪s a good shot. I worked at Radio Shack for a few years and have seen a lot of pictures of batteries. This picture looks very close to what you would see in a catalog. Using my Voting Scale I would of given you a 6 [with the photograph as-is].

It may be 'just a battery' but I would have given it at least a 6. To me it has good comp. I like the angle of the shot, the focus, and the lighting is right. But that is just *my* opinion, take it for what it's worth :)

Thanks a lot for the comments. All are very great ideas and ways that I can improve next time! Thanks.

Probably a "5" from me. The composition is fine, but a fairly uninteresting subject. I would find it better if the focus were on the writing, instead of the postive terminal. As it is, half the "Duracell" is in focus, or thereabouts, and the "ell" especially is getting blurry. Also, there appear to be sharpening artifacts that detract.
While I never would have thought of it, getting rid of the shadow, as SDW65 pointed out, would be an improvement.

Would have been a 3 from me. It's just a battery, with somewhat less than exceptional quality. To me, the story of a photo or something creatinve and original about is above everything else. Absent that, it doesn't even matter much what kinda technical quality does the shot possess...

I like the image! Well executed, but the scaling/JPEG artifacts (whatever they are, it's just not a particularly 'clean' image unfortunately) really bother me. If the image was clean, I would give it a 7 or so. But as it stands, the image quality isn't there, so maybe a 4.

Well, I guess it'd be safe to say it would be better than a 4.2.

Thanks all for the comments -- and that glass idea is AWESOME! Either that, or I was thinking a mirror might turn out ok. It's hard to find a nice piece of posterboard to use for macros as most of them are too coarse. I think that one cost $2.97 which is pretty expensive and I already put a nice crease in it heh so I need a new one.

Again, thanks for the comments and ideas.

I second that...Over jpg'n or neatimage has left some noticable artifacts and harmed the quality of the pic. Nice comp and the subject would have done alright by me.

I actually did some top-down 9 Volt battery shots (for this challenge) that came out nicely and then remembered batteries are not cute and wouldn't do well around here. So canned that Idea.

I should have went with the battery cause I'm finding is you confuse people, that don't work around here either (stick with cute).
