Has anyone had any experience with this remote:
//cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=64345&item=3846733842&rd=1
It's on ebay and seems a reasonable price.
And that's what I'm worried about.
Any thoughts? |

Why would you want a wire if you can do it wireless ? |

The remote sensor on the 300D (rebel) in on the front of the camera, it's not alway's easy to "fire" it when you are behind the camera, a wired remote imho is a better and more reliable device.
Note: I don't have the rebel original remote but tried it a few times with my Pocket PC. It's free but not wordth the try realy.

I bought the remote with the cord. My logic was that I am not going to take pictures of myself. Even if I would (rare) I'd use a timer.
Most of the pictures that I take I am behind the camera. I agree with Philos
Besides, it would be $12 loss if it did not work. Go for it.

I have no idea about the product's reliability but there are several warning flags about the ebay seller. The feedback rating (97.5) is pretty low by ebay standards. And they say that your package will be marked as a gift when it is actually a purchase, -that's an illegal tactic intended to avoid payment of Customs tariffs where applicable. If they're willing to defraud the government would they hesitate to defraud a customer? I'd advise trying to find another seller. |

I did not notice it was in China.
I just paid $24.95 for genuine Canon, so no worries.
Sometimes the eBay's aggreviation and uncertainty are not worth the low price.

I have the wireless and it is difficult to use from behind the camera. Where did you buy the wired remote? Is there a US company to order from? |

I built my own with a couple of push button switches and an 1/8" stereo jack from Radio Shack. It is a 3 wire interface- one is ground, one controls focus (like pushing the shutter release half way) and the other controls the shutter release. This took 3 or 4 dollars worth of parts- a much better deal than $25 for the same thing with a nice plastic molding from Canon.

A follow up and a question....
Follow-up: I bought the remote listed on the first post from 2bexplicit and it arrived from China 14 days later. Works fine and the quality is superb.
Question: I was curious if anyone has found a Universal wireless remote that works with the Canon 300d? I've seen a few posts across the internet, but I'd rather work off someone's actual experience here.

i have a wireless remote, and in most cases it isn't an issue to fire from behind the camera, i just point the remote at the receiver - you have a couple seconds to move your hand...
i am curious where others are finding it a nuisance to use - specifically.

Sometimes I feel sorry for myself because I don't own a rebel or the like.
But right now, the 2-second option on my selftimer seems the simplest and cheapest option (ignore me, I'm just jelaous LOL) |

I got mine from Canon for around $25 (B&H in NYC has a great website and can mail it just about anywhere). I use it mainly when I'm doing macro with a tripod and really don't want any movement. I'm not fancy enough to have a wireless. I like it, although sometimes by pressing it you slide it up into the locked position and fire off a few shots before you know what you've done. but for <$7, I'd recommend it. |

I like the remote, but it seems you have to be pointing in front of the camera and more specifically on the left side. When the camera's on a tripod that's not an issue most of the time. |
