I took this today, I wish I would have taken it in time for the macro challenge. Please give me feedback

Good lighting, and focus. I would have given it a 6 or 7.

If the subject was a little more interesting with the same quality, who knows.

Sorry, but what am I missing??
The left side (top) is too dark.
The subject is cut on the bottom side (right).

I have no idea what it is, but it hold no interest for me.
Am I looking at the right photo?
Sorry, but that MHO.):

well it's obviously a mechanaical pencil... as it says that on it. The block spots would probably have been cropped for a challenge entry ( I hope :-) ). The DOF is great and nice and consistant throughout.

I'm pretty sure it is a pencil.

Yeah, it's obviously a BIC pencil. I would not have scored this very high as it is. I would assume you uploaded it here as you would have to the challenge, so I can't make assumptions that certain parts of the phtto previously mentioned would be gone. Given that, the color range is pretty small. The image almost seems monotone. The print on the pencil is cracked too, and while this could possibly add interest, I think it also takes away the crisp feel of a macro image. I probably would have scored this a 4. (I do tend to score low though. Most images get from a 4 to a 7. I save my <4s and my >7s for exceptional photos.) I like the effort, but I think you could improve on this photo.

sorry, I have to agree with the masses, for pure lack of interest it wouldn't have scored more than a 5 from me.

Besides the not that interesting thing, it is very good technically. You got right on in there, VERY CLOSE! The focus and DOF are great. The black spots are just more writing, big deal. Depending on your viewing audience (like here at DPC where almost perfection is obviously expected and voted that way, but achieving it is rare for most), I would decide about the vignetting to be there or not. Good job
