I hope not! I have a great idea for this challenge, now I just have to figure out a way to make it work and shoot it.

Well, it's been the 14th here for 17 and a half hours, and I was out taking photos today. I may have to resubmit again as the photo I put in was reduced in size dramatically... |

David, just be carefull with the time.
We are 15 hours ahead of DPC time so 12 midnight is 3pm here the day after, so even though it has been the 14th where you are for some time you need to correct to dpc time or you may find that the photo is taken outside of the challenge times and then risk a dq.
Example: For me the photo could only be taken after 3pm on our 14th November, I hope that makes sense to you. |

Are they changing the submission start time of member challenge to 12:00 a.m. Sunday? They always [I guess] started at 12:00 a.m. Monday.
Or is this a mistake?

The photographs I took yesturday for the Black & White II challenge fit the Time Passing challenge rather well too. Good thing I had a back up plan for B & W II.
Living down here does give us a slight advantage with time, being that dpc time is so far behind us. The disadvantage is having to wait for the final results to come in.

Time issues have been brought up before and the SC has said that they take time zones into consideration. So, if by any chance you get a DQ request and are asked to submit your original file, they will take into consideration that you are ahead of time and will DQ if the photo was not taken after the challenge was posted. I dont wanna burst your bubble, but submit etries taken prior to the challenge at your own risk. It is illegal and unethical.

Ah, so my photo was taken at 10.26 am Japan time, so I guess it's no good as far as timing goes. |

When I moved to Korea from the states I never reset my Camera time. So it is still on U.S. time, and my images are pretty much in synch with the times posted by DPC. I get the latest challenges at roughly 2PM if they are posted at midnight in the states. This plays with my mind a little bit, but seems to work out well. |

I always thought that for submitting they used the local time of the time zone the submitter is in(date/time of the camera). For example in Australia it will be the 15th in 10 minutes from now. But here in Europe I still got the whole of the afternoon to shoot for the heroes challange. |

Yes, but I'm not going to take my chances on a photo taken 3 and a half hours before the theme is announced. |

When I see the challenge on screen, I consider that to be challenge on and as such, don't take any notice of start date.
No problems so far. |

Everything is run off the server time at the bottom of every page. So, even though it may be the 15th in Oz, you would still be able to shoot and submit until it becomes the 15th in wherever-the-server-is.
In Europe we still have the afternoon, evening and most of the early hours of the morning to shoot : )
To be safe I would assume that the same is true for the start of the challenge.

The Time Passing Challenge is from November 14th-Nov 20th. If you take a picture at 0001 YOUR TIME on the 14th, you should be fine. It was taken within the dates. Just being sure to submit it before Nov 20th DPC time is the kicker.

The below represents the official rules with regard to dates
All challenge dates go by DPC Server time (posted at the bottom of each page). We will make adjustments to account for your local time zone. This means that a photograph you took while it was the 14th there, and the 13th here (where the DPC servers are), will be disqualified in a challenge that runs from the 14th to the 20th.
On the other hand, a photograph taken while it is the 21st there, but the 20th here, is permissible.
In short, you can not enter a photograph that was taken before the challenge was announced.

I think your last line pretty much sums it up,,, If you had the pic before they posted the challenge, it's illegal.

It is, but there was enough difference of opinion in the thread that an answer from a SC member seemed in order.

My point is they started the challenge a day early. Usually the challenge starts at 12:00 a.m. Monday morning, this time it started Sunday 12:00 a.m. US ET. You can do the time conversion wherever you might live but it still started 24hours earlier. The submission date is November 14th – November 20th [Sunday through Saturday] when the member challenges usually run Monday through Sunday.
So I guess I have a simple question, are the member̢۪s challenges going to start on Sunday [dpc server time] now instead on Monday [dpc server time]

I hope not. I always have spare time on sunday to tweak my entry. Saturdays i`m always too drunk.

Mixed feelings, but from my perspective I liked it the way it was. I usually only have time on the weekend, and Sunday is usually the day I get any time to do as I please. The way it is, I might be able to get a shot on Saturday, and reshoot if needed on Sunday -- or just get the shot on Sunday. If it starts on Sunday, I have 24 hours to decide on a subject and get it right -- I have no guarantee of time on the following Saturday to reshoot. :( Not to mention it takes most of the week for me to come up with an entry when I do enter.
But, I other individuals will have other demands on their time...

I really wish there was a bit of clarifacation if this is just a one time thing, a experiment, or if it never should been there in the first place.
I personally like the way it is. The major disadvantage on doing it on a Sat nite is that I could actualy see me scores dive before I go to bed.
