I regularly check the DPC Website when I get a chance, both at home and at the office. I've been suprised to find how different my photographs look at different screen resolutions from computer to computer.

At home I run 1280x1024 resolution and a 640x480 photo, for example, appears rather small and sharp. But on the office system, the computers run a more common 1024x768 res and show the same 640x480 photo at a larger size and seemingly less sharp.

I'm just wondering what resolution most people run when viewing and marking photos, and do people think that it changes the overall 'feel' of the submissions as the resolution of a monitor changes?

both 1024 x 768 and a similar widescreen on my laptop.

1152 x 864. I notice a marked difference when toggling, but also find that I adapt quickly to a changed resolution.

I don't vote on photos if I'm not using my home computers. The various ones I use at offices just aren't good enough for viewing the photos fairly. Currently looking at 1024x768 resolution.

I'm running a Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop at 1600x1050. Them 640x427 photos is very tiny. I prefer to submit 640x640 when I can, anyways, as I'm maximising real estate. I tend to think the square compositions score higher, too.

Anytime you increase the size of a photo without resampling (reducing your monitor resolution) it's going to appear less sharp. You're never going to appeal to everyone. I find that the extremely high resolution and general quality of my display has decreased my taste for sharpening, and while someone with a fuzzy monitor isn't going to share my opinion, I don't really care.

I use 1600x1200 on a 21" monitor, so most 640x480 submissions appear almost as postage stamps with insufficient details because of the combination of the two factors :(

3200 x 1600 (twin monitors) calibrated 2-3 times daily.

i use the same monitor everytime but i'm surprized everytime i see the perfect pic i took BEFORE i submit it and the total imperfect one i see AFTER getting my feedback and scores. what would cause such a massive change.... :-)))

Education? Perhaps? :D

I keep my display set at 1600x1200, so a 640x480 image covers only 16% of the display area. This makes the image about the size of a 4x6 print (well, actually 4.5x5.5, but close enough). I would like to have a larger image to view, but it probably isn't worth the trouble it would cause (see recent threads on increasing size of images). Decreasing the resolution just causes the images to pixelate more and, as was noted, become less sharp as a result.
