On my old spotmatic many many many many years ago, as I recall, I could lock the DOF preview on so I could see the effect while focusing or composing. Is there a way to do this on the dRebel? Is this something modern SLRs just don't do?

On my 20D, I just hold down the button while scrolling thru the aperture value. Works for me...

The old SLRs were manual focus, you could stop down the aperture and use stopped down metering and still focus (though the split field prism will turn black at small apertures).
But for modern SLRs, stopping down too much will prevent autofocus from working (e.g. the 300D will only AF at f/5.6 or wider), so I guess most manufacturers have thrown that feature out of the window.
You can still hold down the DOF preview button and manually focus though...

Thanks. I guess I'll just need to grow another arm. ;)
While I have your attention, I have another equipment question:
I want an Eye cup. I have a Canon eye cup in my accessory drawer -- not sure what it canme with -- but it doesn't seem to be for the dRebel. Any of you use an eye cup that you recommend, or do generic ones fit the dRebel nicely anyway.

There is a DOF preview button.
If you look at the camera, just under where the lens release button is there's a small black button, that's it.
If you have the small blue booklet that came with the 300D (The pocket Guide) it's on the 'Shooting Operation' page.
