Have you ever noticed how much this place is like it̢۪s own country?

I originally came to DPC nation as a tourist when I heard there was a place that offered challenges for the adventurer. I immigrated less than a year ago and became a citizen a few months later. I came here for freedom to express creativity and to speak freely with others about an often misunderstood passion. I have not been disappointed.

A young nation, it pleased me to find this new place was not without a form of governance. Like a good participatory republic, all residents have the right to vote. We have rights of privacy and the anonymity of our votes is protected. We also have the right to petition the ever-present Site Congress which was formed to interpret and enforce the laws of the State. Thus, this country has evolved from a strict monarchy to something much more.

Participation in government is encouraged and exemplified by frequent debates. The citizens are occasionally polled on matters of national significance Many among us are actively engaged in generous volunteerism and community service through participation in the Critique Corps, a group of selfless individuals formed to encourage the betterment of all citizens. We are a population of helpful and supportive people.

Taxation is truly voluntary. For a modest donation (not adjusted for income or other individual demographics) our taxes go to support the infrstructure of the nation. There are incentives for those who contribute in this manner, only one of which is a snazzy blue uniform. By paying the voluntary tax, one also gains access to a special button which allows them to check their national standings on demand. Individual enterprise is encouraged and taxpayers may profit by opening their own stores. DPC Nation takes care of its entrepreneurs by overseeing sales and arranging all exports.

Yes, we do have uniforms issued to us in blue and grey. But they are not at all like those worn during the War Between the States in another country, nor entirely like the clothes issued previously in a large communist country in another time and place. We wear them proudly. I should also mention that those who have the honor of being appointed to Site Congress enjoy the freedom of wearing whatever they like and styling their hair however they choose—a benefit of their governmental positions. Regular citizens have the choice of clean shaven, short hair or pigtails—they often base this choice on their gender.

Each citizen is given real estate to use responsibly. At the basic level of immigrant, one can post personal information and keep track of their national participation. The blue shirts have more room to work at their chosen craft. Freedom of individual expression is nurtured and protected here. Residents need not have birthdays if they so choose. And everyone has the right to disclose personal information and advertise their other affiliations. We are a diverse and talented population.

These are exciting times in DPC Nation! Currently there is open debate about establishing a new currency to make the exchange of services easier. This, of course, would lead to a national employment program. Ahhâ€Â¦what a time to be alive and free in such a great country!

xion, postal service, check
skiprow, militia, check (and very funny)

And it seems I forgot about our national education system based on distance learning through tutorials....

Though we have no need for a health care program, there does seem to be a cadre of psychologists here who will help you overcome many difficulties, such as low-score depression. However there are counter-psychologists at work as well in the underground, ready to fuel the addictions some of us have developed. (Back away from the update button, slowly, slowly....)

Thanks all for your positive responses to my recent lunacy!

I think if you can be available 24/7, we won't have anyone here depressed for long!

I am so flattered! (Where is laurielblack with her blushing smiley when you need it?)

My husband says I should consider your proposal...but I don't think we have a chapel in this country, yet.

Bumping up! I found this interesting read after KaDi made a comment on one of my pics :)
So do we or do we not have a chapel on DPC, there certainly was an engagement announcement awhile back :)

This is a great read - what shall we have for our national anthem?

I think it needs to be somthing to do with freedom - maybe U2's song about Mandela
Mandela Day I think

That's a great post, very clever parallels. It's worth pointing out that our work is judged without regard for age, race, sex or country of origin (exept maybe Iceland), and miscreants who don't abide by the laws are deported.

Interesting post, but by most of the SC's own admission the general citizens' wishes are NOT taken into account when running this corner of the web.
The 'congress' are not elected, and some of them have lost sight of the fact that many people here believe they should represent their interests and reflect public opinion as well as enforce the rules.
Polls have been ignored in the past, and requests for them are usually met with derision.
I love much about DPC but not it's lack of democratic values.
Most of the DPC users are a placid bunch who don't like to make a fuss over anything, so I don't expect any revolutions soon.
But I learned a long time ago to stop posting in the forums with any kind of criticism... well, time to time I can't help myself as you can see now! But I do believe the loss is with DPC... I have learnt to stop caring so much about this community because change is so difficult to even ask for here without much grief.
Anyway, it is a great community and there is much to offer, otherwise I wouldn't still be here.

Edited for clarity.
