Hi all LA DPCers (and those close enough or visiting),

Greg & I are calling a get together on Nov 14th (NOT TO BE CANCELLED) :) Heehee. Greg is free after 4pm and I am free all day. I figure I could go out with anyone in the day to photograph whatever and wherever and then meet up with him at 4:15pm in Torrance area. Anyone want to get together during the day and if so, when and where?! I have this day marked on my calendar as NOV DPC Day :)

Hi James, nice to meet you! Please join us on the 14th if you can. I am going to try to work out with Greg where to go. I don't think we are going to go to the Wedge until we can be sure that Eric & Chuck can join us and also when more people will be out there surfing (not in this weather!) Any suggestions for the LA/OC border? Something near Torrance? Greg is down there and has to meet up with us late so I was thinking that something in that general 30 min range would be great...

Eric, try to get off work or meet up with us when Greg does (4:30pm)! We should have an hour and a half before sunset and we can continue with some night photography too.

I was thinking a 2pm to 6pm gathering, then a quick fast-food dinner before heading home.

Anyone else want to join us?

What do you all think? We could meet at City Hall and drive over to the beach together so we can split the $5 car fee. We can meet at 1:30pm and spend 2 hours there. Then meet up with Greg around 4:15pm somewhere...

Any thoughts?

Wow, they charge for cars now? That's new to me. Although I haven't been there in a while, I'm willing to go but there are plenty of other areas we can visit that are free, I'm sure. Many of them are along PV Drive East and/or South on the west side of the hill (ocean side).

PS: I hope to be free arond 4:30 but we'll see hoe long the birthday party lasts.

Okay, I am going to look up the "visitor's center" and see if we can all meet and park there. Then, I'll post the address & meeting time here. :)

Okay, here's where we are meeting. Do you all have my cell phone? If not, PM me for it and give me yours again too!

We are spending the afternoon around the "Avenue of the Peninsula" and starting off at Hawthorne & Silver Spur

We will get in one car or two and take Hawthorn towards the ocean, as far as we can go, then head South on PV Drive

We will see Point Vicente, the Lighthouse & Abalone Cove

We should meet at 1:00pm, giving us a few hours of light and to find out way around. Then at 4pm, Greg, call me so we can have you meet up with us for an hour or two!

Any thoughts or changes?

Avenue of the Peninsula is a nice outdoors mall. I have some shots from that place but not posted anywhere. Used to be fully enclosed with a roof but has since been sold to some company in Idaho or Montana or somewhere and now the roof is gone. They have a movie theater and for food there's Ruby's and some other places. Outside the mall is a good Vietnamese place.

If you are interested in a brief sidetrip, you can go to the PV library and look at a mixed media art show. I have my "Sunrise over Kona" print on display there near the children's section.

BTW, I haven't been to Abalone Cove since I was very young so I might have trouble locating it again. :)

I have to work this weekend. I am going to try and get most of it done on Saturday so I can just work a half-day on Sunday. One little problem, I will have to leave by around 4:00 - 4:30 I have plans for Sunday evening.

I look forward to seeing everyone on Sunday!

Eric

Arie, I was looking outside my window today and it was getting pretty dark around 4 (and night-like at 5) and I don't think there will be too many exciting night shots by Abalone Cove. We could go somewhere else more exciting after you folks are done with the beach for night shots.
11/12/2004 01:13:22 AM · #15
Okay, we'll finish with the cove and lighthouse, then meet you for some night shots wherever you want. You pick a fun spot and call me!

Those are some really creative shots, Terje! Great job. I've thought taking shots while driving but doing that with the 10D is quite a task. Maybe with my S500. :)

Arie, since it'll be dark anyway, maybe we can go somewhere fun like The Block in Orange. Everyone else, what do you think about that idea?

That sounds fun! I don't even know who's joining me ahead of time. I hope Eric & Mark can make it during the day for the Cove & Lighthouse.

I can stick around til 6:15pm, then I gotta be back to meet my sister at my place in Glendale for the Simpsons (she missed last week's so we are going to watch it before the new one). Greg, you are welcome to come over and watch it with us!

Day of bump! Hope to see some of you later if possible!

Well, I am sorry I couldn't make it, but I look forward to seeing some great pictures. Since the kids' softball season is now winding down, I hope to make the next few outings.

If anyone is interested, Magic Mountain (in Valencia) is offering buy a day ($48.00), get an annual pass for 2005 free. I'm going to pick one up... I think it might provide some great shooting opportunities, especially with night shots and roller coasters. Worth considering.

You guys missed a lot of great photo opportunities this evening. After our dinner at Ruby's we went to Santa Monica's Third Street Promenade and just stayed there the whole time. I think we got there just before 8 and left about 12. I took approximately 135 shots total today a bit more because I deleted a few. I'll post them up shortly.

You went to the Prominade without me! Well, I am dragging you back there sometime for more shots on a non-workday eve. :)

I can't wait to see your photos. I am going to shutterfly my best (in non-printable format (shrunk for web)) just to get them online quickly. I started cropping last night. I should be done tonight and will send a link when I finish :)

Just wanted to post a quick note to thank mirdonamy, qmdi & MrAkamai for a wonderful afternoon and evening. Sure beats the heck out of November in Wisconsin! Thanks Arie, Eric & Greg!
Hopefully I'll get some pics posted in the next couple days, but I don't want to do too much editing on the laptop, 'cause I always get home, look at the results on the CRT and wind up redoing it all.
Lookin' at the new Members' challenge topic, I may have an entry lurking amongst the Promenade shots...

Thanks Fritz! I had a great time! Thank you for all the pointers. Let us know when you will be back in town :)
