Okay...I have a Nikon 18-70 DX lens that is only 3 weeks old and it has a piece of dust on the lens just under the front glass. Where could that have come from? How can I remove it?

Take it back to where you bought it and request a replacement.

Sounds like it got there during manufacturing. I would take it back and get a new lens.

I have the same thing with a Canon 28-105mm lens. Dust can get sucked in as you pump air in and out while zooming. I don't think it's fixable without expensive dealer service. On the other hand, it probably won't be visible unless you're using a really small aperture.

Being assembled outside the factory?
Are you sure you didn't have it when you bought it?
You can take it to the people you bought it from and ask for a replacement.

I dont remember seeing when I first received it. It may have been there. Its definitely visible at f22. I know that for sure. It's showing up in the images.

I have a feeling you are not talking about dust inside the lens at all.
I think you have a spec of dust on the sensor. You need to get rid of. Now be careful with that. You can use a blower (not compressed air). Read that manual and it will have a section on it. Follow it word to word.

edit: typo

So how do you explain the dust on the inside of the last glass element on my Canon 50mm? Just curious. How DOES dust get into a prime?

No...it is definitely dust on the lens under the front glass. I can see the piece of dust on it looking thru the front of the lens!
